In hair purgatory
What conditioners you like that contain "bad" stuff?
What is the bad ingredient(s)?
What do you use this product for specifically?
How long have you used it?

I know there are others out there that are worse, but my guilty pleasure is Herbal Essences Hello Hydrations :yep: .....it has cones :nono:

I'm trying reeeeally hard to get to a no-poo reggie, and this conditoner is the only thing that's keeping me from getting there, as it's the only cone-based product I currently use. It makes my hair SO soft and gives it SO much slip during detangling. *sigh*

I find myself sneaking a little bit into my co-wash mix, a dash into my DC mix...I even sometimes use a little as a moisturizer if I run out of my staples. I'M AN HE HH ADDICT. There- I've admitted it.

Motions moisture plus has mineral oil as the second ingredient. I`ve been using this product for about a year and it`s a super thick moisturizing conditioner :lick: I use it to deep condition and co-wash

ETA: it also has cones :drunk: but my hair loves 'em with a fiery passion :lick:

My rule of thumb in the BSS is: be wary if mineral oil is high on the list. but if it works for me and gets rave reviews I dont care really...

I don't study ingredients, but just coz you asked, I looked up Emergencee which I've had an affair with since the early nineties. So that answers how long (almost 20 years). I use it for strengthening purposes (it's one of the reconstructors I DC with). I look at the ingredients and turned the "bad ones" into links so you can read about them--the ones in bold are supposedly the worst:

Water (Aqua, Eau), Collagen Amino Acids, Polyacrylamidomethylpropane Sulfonic Acid, Propylene Glycol, Hydrolyzed Elastin, Gelatin, Methylparaben, DMDM Hydantoin, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone

It would take me the whole day to go through my products to figure out what's bad coz I hardly give that much thought...so I'ma just give you the link to look up any you're worried about: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/

bride91501 not all cones are dangerous--unless we mean as in bad for the environment "bad" :hide:. The only reason people don't like them is they coat hair so much that if your hair is not moisturized, then it will feel dry and you will not be able to moisturize it until you wash it off.

Just looked at Hello Hydration and it has cyclopentasiloxane as the third ingredient, which is indeed one of the bad ones.

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner. I don't use it all the time. I've used it only twice to dc my hair. But it's funny that you made this thread 'cause I was just looking at the ingredients yesterday and realized that it has some pretty iffy ones like alcohol (behenyl, cetaryl, cetyl) dimethicone, amodimethicone, methyparaben and propylparaben. I used this last night after I prepooed with an egg, lustrasilk cholesterol, olive oil. castor oil. and honey, and then shampooed my hair with Ion Inspired by Nature shampoo. It was da bomb! It left my hair feeling amazingly soft. Not too thrilled about the ingredients though.

I try to not pay too close attention to what others say about products; rather, I try to focus on how they make my hair feel. The only reason I feel guilt about HE HH is b/c using it requires me to use shampoo at some point to rid my hair of the cones....and my hair really dislikes shampoo.

Oh well. It's worth it for now

Not all alcohol is bad. Cetyl is actually a fatty alcohol which means it's originated from the oils or fats of a substance. Oils are very useful for smoothing the hair.

Here's my list:

HE Hydralicious (cones and sodium hydroxide)
Suave almond and shea butter (cheapie condish with cones)
Fructis Moisture works (cones)
Tresemme Flawless curls (cones)

I use them all to cowash with... They work, so I don't complain. I use the high-end natural products for DCing and leave-ins.

Silicon Mix (the original)- it has mineral oil...I love everything about this DC; I've been using it weekly for over a year.

I use lots of silicone conditioners, my favorite is aussie deep 3MM
Aphogee 2 min keratin reconstructor has mineral oil
I have no idea what most of the ingredients in my dominican conditioners are

I use sulfate free shampoo. I know I'm not "supposed" to do this but I have been for years and it works for me. My shampoos are always on the stronger side, never moisturizing and sometimes I use Dr Bronner's or black soap. This is a leftover habit from when I had locs and couldn't use anything that left any kind of residue in my hair. I don't feel like I need anything more powerful to get my hair clean

@bride91501 have you tried the "new and improved" HEHH? b/c i heard alot of people dont like it and its not as moisturizing as the original...

Hey iri! Where you been girl? :) I'm not sure if the one I use is the old one or new one, but we are definitely having a secret love affair lol. This thread is the first time I've actually "claimed" it lol. It's like an undercover boyfriend or something :lachen:
