Coloring over reddish brown back to dark?!

Back in may of 07,, i stupidly colored my hair one time with a medium brown color, it didnt lighten very much but it soon turned brassy and yucky.. well i tried a rinse,, didnt do crap and now i tried a semi permanent and it barely worked... i thought it would be easy to cover.. I just wanna go back to "light" black... do you think it would be a bad idea to use a permanent natural black color just once? I have read that darkening the hair isnt really damaging compared to lightening.... what do you think?

I've done this a million times. I don't think that you will have any ill effects at all. One thing that I've noticed with black dye is that it can be very drying.

Thats true in the since that you are not really lifting alot of your natural pigment but regardless of color, permanent dye uses a higher level of developer(peroxide) than a semi or demi perm color. Usually a 20-30 volume instead of like 10. Is any semi still in your hair. If so wait until all of it comes out before you color. I don't think you would have any major ill effects from using a black permanent color. From reading your other posts, you take good care of your hair. What brand were you thinking about using??

Aww, I'm sorry to hear of your hair color mishaps, I know how it can be!

I decided a long time ago that I would professionally get my color done. Is that an option for you or do you prefer to do it yourself?

Good luck hun, I'm sure there is something out there that can get you to the color you wanna be. I hope this hasn't ruined your outlook on color...it can be fun! :yep:

Thanx for your replies.... I think I will wait till this semi permanent comes out... and then ill consider permanent black.... I am afraid it will be drying and i have no clue what brand id use.... Im never coloring again till im gray!!
