Can anyone tell me how coconut oil benefits the hair? I was in Wild Oats today and saw a jar of it and it said for the skin and hair. By the way, it was very expensive:eek:

i've been using aceite de coco(coconut oil) from a dominician stylist for 2 years now and i love it. it gives my hair a nice shine, not heavy and its a nice oil for moisturizing. it also has a very nice smell.

The coconut oil I smelled in the health food store didn't have a smell to it. Maybe because it's organic. Then again, it was really hard and in the jar so if it's heated up then it might have a smell to it

the one that i use comes in a bottle and its a clear liquid. also, its not expensive at all. alot of dominician salons use that or cinnamon oil. its basically used as a moisturizing oil-instead of using heavy grease use one of those instead. great for shine also

where did you purchase it?

i purchased it from a beauty supply store, but it was in new york. you can order it online at ibeautyny.com--type coconut oil in the search box--its a clear bottle with yellow label its 2.99--its says that it restores moisture to dry and damaged hair--read side writing

if u do a search you'll find lots of information. I use organic coconut oil from Whole Foods. Its light and moisturizing and gives tons of sheen

unless its virgin, it wont smell like coconuts. organic just means grown without pesticides. if you want the kind that has the scent, it should say virgin.

WELL benefit wise...LOTS OF MOISTURE to my airdried hair AFTER i use a spritzing of water on my hair 1st (which my particular bottle says to do anyway)...my ends looks so shiney and moisturized

Coconut Oil is very light and penetrates the skin and hair easily. It makes my hair soft and shiny. I have the refined (no smell) kind that cost $2.99 for 12 oz. I sometimes use a little of it to pan sear my pork chops:grin:

and...it does wonders to soften my super thick new growth!!! And yup, I love that's its not heavy like a lot of the other oils! Mine also has no scent.

I get aciete de coco (coconut oil) from BSS for about $5, its a very tiny bottle maybe 2 oz(?) but the smell is wonderful, also monoi lines of coconut oil have a wonderful smell.
Cononut oil softens my hair up, but i mainly use it on my ends.
