Coconut Oil

I get mine from the Vitamin Shoppe, like Tiffany.

It is 5 bucks for a big jar. It's 100% unrefined, and is solid when I purchase it. However, I melt it in the microwave and it usually stays pretty melted. I mix mine into my moisturizer.

Pure unrefined---from the tropics. It smells like coconut. It really absorbs into my hair better than any other oil without leaving it greasy and oily. My hair also does not flatten out with this oil. Bonjour

I wonder if some in this thread are talking about REAL coconut oil or the kind that you buy in the drug store that has a lot of other stuff in it (mineral oil, etc.).

For those that use the liquid kind--do you ever apply it as a liquid or just let it harden?

The kind that I'm talking about is the real coconut oil that becomes liquid above 76 degrees. Mine pretty much remains in the liquid form. My guess is that it's refined due to the price.

My coconut oil remains liquid also. It was solid when I first bought it though. I love coconut oil, keeps my hair soft. Now I put it in a spray bottle and spray it on. Less mess that way! I bought it from fromnaturewithlove.com.

Ok, scrap my previous post! I was rummaging through my pile of "stuff" and I found my bottle of coconut oil that I had thrown aside. Now it is liquid since the temperature here has warmed up. Anyway, I used the coconut oil [warmed] with my conditioner wash. The results were great; I had oh so much slip. I love coconut oil! The smell is delightful along with the benefits.

I find Shea butter is too thick for my fine, thin hair. It does liquify with body heat (after a little stiff palm rubbing) but feels heavy where co melts on contact (even sitting on my bathroom counter at room temp as others have mentioned)...CO absorbs quickly instead of shea which feels almost greasy-waxy on my skin. Also co smells delicious (after all it is edible!) where shea is not such a pleasant smell (imo)...i buy organic virgin co from tropical traditoins cuz i cook with it & want stuff to taste mahvalous!

I mix coconut oil w/Aussie Deepppp Con and put a plastic cap on my head. Leave on for about an hour, then rinse out. After I blow dry & flat iron (I know . . . I know -- double heat!! ), but the coconut oil seems to work well with the heat. My hair stays relaxer straight (if that's the look you're going for) until the next wash . . . a week later. You don't have to blow dry or flat iron, I'm sure airdrying would work fine with the coconut oil. Hmmm . . . I should try that next weekend!

I'm doing a coconut oil & honey prepoo right now... I washed my hair earlier with my Nexxus samples but my hair felt kind of rough so I decided to wash again. I hope this prepoo will soften it up a bit.
