What's your regime? Can you leave it in overnite?

Slowly, but surely

I use it as a hot oil treatment and as a daily oil. It works great, and I really think it penetrates the hair shaft. You can definitely leave it in overnight.

It just so happens that I am using virgin coconut oil as a hot oil treatment tonight. I'll leave it in overnight. I mix it with a few essential oils, then put on 2 plastic caps and my satin bonnet or a scarf. I place a towel on my pillow to soak up any leakage because I do the hot oil treatment with wet hair.

I use coconut oil as a daily oil/moisturizer. I don't do hot oil treatments but I don't see why you couldn't leave it in overnight.

I use coconut oil on my wet hair to seal in the moisture. It's very good for airdrying.. the hair comes out very smooth and less frizzy. I find that using the oils on my wet hair really allows it to penetrate the shaft better than on dry hair. However, I will use a little on dry hair also to give my hair an extra shine boost.

I cant wait to find some of this....will it make my 4a relaxed hair greasy and weighed down? I feel like I asked u this already armyqt...sorry if I did....

You can do just about ANYTHING w/ cocoanut oil that you can imagine! It's heavy, so you'll have to be careful about amounts, but it can be worn anytime...daily hair dress (many women from India do just this), worn on your skin, a hot oil treatment, you can add it to almost any product for more shine or "slip", etc....in short, it's great IF it's 100% coconut, not that stuff that's sold in the black section of hair care aisles.

Check a local whole foods or natural market in your area. This would save you S/H. If not, there are many places to purchase coconut oil online. Do a general search on the internet. Spectrum Naturals Organic Coconut Oil is the brand I use. This is what the jar looks like: http://www.lifesvigor.com/prod/10758/index.htm.

I love it on wet hair! It really does seal in the moisture.
However, I am trying to avoid using too much in the summer time. Too much heat from the sun can make 100% natural coconut oil smell kind of funny on the hair.

I also love to use it on my skin after my shower at night!

Re: Coconut Oil

I use coconut oil similar to the way CurlyCrly uses it. Except I add a little jojoba oil. I purchase mine from the local Indian store for $1.99, it's pure coconut oil.

. The coconut oil doesn't leave my hair feeling oily or weighted down at all. The one I use is very, very light. It is pure unrefined coconut oil. It is important that you get unrefined, cause refined coconut oil will dry your hair out if used too often.

This is the one I use

You can get it here iherb

Interestingly enough, I searched several websites to try and give you the link to the lowest price, and three of the sites I checked are currently out of stock. Seems like this is a big seller. You can do a search on google for Garden of Life Coconut OIl and see if you can find a site that has it in stock.

I mix my coconut oil with extra virgin olive oil as a hot oil treatment. Haven't tried it any other way though. I got a big ole jar of KTC coconut oil in a food shop, the only ingredient is 100% coconut oil

Thanks guys
I have the expeller refined oil (it was all that I could find). It worked fine my hair had a little shine to it. The smell is a little off though. Maybe I'll mix it with another oil to mask the smell. I'm gonna order some online too

Thank you so much for the info armyqt. I had done a search for it a few days ago and realized that no one has it in stock. Ill keep trying...eventually, folks have to just harvest some more damn coconuts!!!

Re: Coconut Oil

Re: Coconut Oil

When stretching out my relaxer I used this on my roots prior to rollersetting. I just melted some unrefined coconut oil and put it in an old WGO bottle. Apply to the roots, set and sit under the dryer. Roots came out very straight and stayed that way even after a vigorous workout.

Luna, I have no idea. I did not check. I bought coconut oil 76 degrees. It works for me.

Re: Coconut Oil

I started to use 100% natural coconut oil after I saw the results of my mom's hair. She puts a bit in her hair every night and wraps it. Since she's used it, her hair has been SILKY soft, very manageable, and shine like you wouldn't believe! She has 3B hair while I have 4a/b so I use it a bit differently. I let a little melt in my hands and then I mix it with Nexxus Humectress and distribute it throughout. I wrap my hair as well and it feels a lot better than it use to. I have always had a problem with shine and coconut oil gives it shine and softness.
