I have NEVER clarified.. I do co-wash often and wash with shampoo once every 2 weeks. Is clarification necessary or just an option?

I think generally speaking it is just an option.

But, for me personally, it is necessary or my hair gets dull and dry.

I recently found out that I specifically need chelating clarifying shampoo because of mineral deposits in my water (and maybe even because of the no-lye I use).

I think it's just an option. I need to clarify, others don't. Your hair will tell you. If it's dull, lifeless and "icky" you may need to clarify.

i think clarifying is good now that i keep more moisturizers and oils in my hair. i need a good cleansing every once in a while (you might want to use a mild one or dilute it with water, though). after you clarify once, you see how it's different from normal shampooing and because you got rid of product buildup you can see a difference in how well your favorite products work again. i guess it's always just an option though...

its not a necessity, but I think you should clarify at least once a month... just to get the impurities accumulated out of your hair

depending on the condition of my hair, or how many products i use during the week, i usually clarify once every 1-2 weeks. my hair has rebounded greatly since I started clarifying.

I think it depends on two things: the quality of your water and what kind of products you use. Hard water and/or silicone = build-up.

I totally agree with this!

Should I clarify after taking braids out?

I would have said 'yes, clarify after takedown' if you had asked me a month ago, but now I'm thinking you don't need to. Braids seem to insulate hair from stuff (everywhere but the root, of course). Let your hair tell you. If it's hard start with clarifying. Otherwise I'd wait. Just my 2 cent.

Thank you Sareca for your 2 cents....:)
Anyone else?

Yes clairfying is very important. :yep:

I clarify when I know my hair has a lot of build-up.

I clarify with vinegar or ACV.
