Christian Lounge

The Lord put this idea on my spirit a couple years back and now he has been pressing it on me again to open a Chrstian Lounge...a place where Christians can hang out in a clean environment and possibly meet people that have the same interests (God) as them.
Please give me feedback on if you would go to a Chrisitan Lounge and what kind of things would attract you to one, and any other suggestions or advice you may have.
Thanks a lot.
Also any information that you have about attempting to open a Lounge and the process would be also appreciated :)

Sounds interesting but hard. How would you makre sure everyone in there would be a Christian? Just wondering... I also have no useful information to help you-sorry!

I go to all types of places/venues as long as there is good entertainment, food and even non alcoholic drinks. A Christian Lounge sounds nice but maybe a hard sale if your looking to make a profit of some kind.

I love the idea. Atmosphere...ambiance would be important. If I envision one it would have the sports bar type flat screen monitors....they could show gospel videos. You could have a night where aspiring christian/gospel artists perform...they could be poets, singers, comics...etc...shoo I've got other ideas too...pm me if you want a partner :D

Thanks for the feedback.
I wouldn't necessary make sure everyone that came was a Christian, because I would not want to try to judge that one. I would want to market more heavily in the Chrstain arenas (Christian radio stations, churchs, Chrstian events, etc). I just want it to be somewhere that Christians can feel comfortable, and possibly meet some people with shared belief (God).
Thanks again for the feedback and anymore suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated (positive or negative!!!) :)
kisz4tj, I am about to PM you.
Thanks

Great ideas kis. I figure she would lean towards spokenword, plays, book signings, special events and artist performances. Sorta like a Busboys and Poets venue in DC w/o the alcoholic drinks.

I love the idea! If you open it, they will come :) . I would definitely attend this. You never know how it will turn out. I say if God has put it on your spirit, there's a reason!

Go for it. At the Church I grew up in, they have a coffee house once a month. Different bands, singers, and poets perform. The only thing is, they have a difficult time getting people to attend. I think they need better PR.

But I am sure you would get people to attend. I would.

As far as knowing who is a Christian and who isn't, I don't hink that is a real issue. I believe 1/2 of the people who attne the Madea plays are not Christians/Saved. Half of perople in service are not Christians/Saved.

Once you talke to a person, you will know them by their fruit. Watch for the imitation orange juice.:lachen:

Heck I would fly down to support her in her endeavors. I love spokenword and smaller theatre plays. I only get this form of entertainment in abundance in DC and NYC. I will be checking out some spots in ATL really soon. I think marketing and networking is the key to success here. It will definitely take time to see a profit. While I enjoy poetry readings, small theatre engagements and live music it really is hard getting others to come out to support it. You definitely have to have a following. Which will come with good marketing, pr and networking.

What city are you thinking of doing this in?

I would love to go to a Christian lounge, I would love to see live performances, plays, readings, food etc. I think it would be great if non-Christians came, it would be a wonderful tool for evangelism.

You could even consider areas to have parties, reunions, showers, etc, and let your establishment cater the food. Sort of like events coordination and planning. This would help on "slow months" and take you over the top in the summer when there are alot of gatherings. When I was in college I used to work in catering at a nice hotel and the most busiest times would be New Years, Valentines, June-August (weddings receptions, family reunions, birthdays, etc.), November and December (office parties etc.) I would also encourage playing the music of not only what is on rotation on gospel radio but those gospel songs that aren't as well. I have a large collection but I have never understood why some secular stations play better gospel than some gospel stations. I shouldn't say better but some songs are over played in rotation on some gospel stations and some of the others you never have the opportunity to hear. I would even consider some instrumental jazz because to me it is calming and some is even good to dance to. I have so many more ideas whew! I have this idea but with a slightly different twist.

My sentiments exactly. I say this because so many non-believers think that Christianity is boring when it really isn't. There are boundaries like all things but it certainly isn't boring.

Chicago, because I live in the Chicago area, and I haven't seen anything like this, and I feel there is a "need" for it.

Regarding everyone else's comments and suggestions...Thank you so much. It really helps to hear other people's suggestions. I really like the idea of renting somewhere and maybe doing it certain days of the month when first starting out. Is there a website that you all check out to spot out places like this? I justg want to know the best avenue for advertising.

One thing I want to point out is that no person would be excluded from coming to the Lounge. I feel that like, some ladies pointed out, that it can be a way of evangelism in a suttle way for some people to allow "unsaved" people to come in. At the same time there will definately be a "clean and Christian" undertone to it. Some people may feel uncomfortable with that and may choose to not come back. However, others may feel that they like the ambiance and become regulars. My focus is not on keeping a certain group "in", because I think that God can work with anyone, however I do want Christians to be able to go and feel comfortable, because I feel that there are places that anyone can go, but very few that keep Christians in mind, so I wouldn't want for them to be "forgotten". It would be setup like a regular Lounge where anyone is welcome in. I am not trying to judge anyone's relationship with God. Hope that makes sense.

What an amazing idea! Your idea really excites me. I will lift you up in prayer.

I don't think "screening" people to see if they are really Christians is necessary. Your lounge should be welcoming. If someone comes into your establishment and is not a Christian, your business could lead them to Christ.

I agree with the ideas already mentioned: spoken word, open mic nights, gospel performances, etc.

Book talks would also be nice.

There was another good idea mentioned where you can rent out the lounge for parties, showers, and even bible studies.

You can have really nice paintings on the walls and really nice water fountains.

Also, go to this site: http://www.abbaoil.com/

They sell annointing oils and very nice smelling candles. My mom bought one of their candles for our apartment and our apartment smelt heavenly! The smell lasted hours after we blew the flame out.

Research safe ways you can freshen up the room and give it a light, heavenly smell. It can be very inviting.

This is a great idea. I've thought about this a least a thousand times over the years. Actually there is a similiar type of Christ focused get-to-gether every month here in DC.

Check out this website: www.christianhangsuite.com

I haven't personally been to any of the events yet. But a friend told me about it last year. They have picked up on the "First Friday" concept. There events are called "First Sundays" and it's held at a local club here on every 1st Sunday from 3pm-7pm. Actually I'm going to try and check it out this weekend.

Anyhoo...like I said great idea. Check out the above info it may be helpful.

Be Blessed!

Sun

Yes, it's a great idea. My hubby and friends and I are always looking for a place to hang out and that is free from immoral behavior.

Non, you can't ensure that everyone will be true Followers of Christ. But as it was mentioned, this may be a venue to bring people to or Lord. So this is a tremendous plus.

Be sure that your mission statement and rules are well established and very prominently posted, so that people who enter cannot claim they didn't understand what this lounge is all about.

I'd definately visit you! May God bless your ministry.

Hey fivefourssweetie! A member of my church has place that features comedians, jazz, no alchololic drinks and etc. So of course you know it can definitely be done! :yep:
