This is a youtube video with Joel Osteen preaching about choosing battles to ignore. Not every battle is yours to fight, and engaging in all battles sent your way will be a major distraction to your ultimate purpose.

To those who cannot watch youtube from work or for whatever reason.. the few points that stood out best to be were:

1) The fact that Joel Osteen was unaware of his largest critics simply because he was putting his energy into all that he knew was best in serving his purpose

2) You have to be so confident in your calling that you don't NEED anybody's approval

3) The mark of a true champion is knowing which battles to fight - Pay no mind to jealous, critical, small minded people

I know a lot of people think he's a sell-out, but his message makes so much everyday sense for all situations of life.

Guitarhero, i have never heard that about Joel... just that his sermons are all rosy with no hard times shared... Ala joyce Meyers... why do you think that is?

That's the reason I read about from time to time. He doesn't preach hard on a salvation message but he's mostly about how christians can improve their daily walk. He's big on positivity.

I believe that Joel preaches false hope and give Christian a weak ground to stand on. the bible is telling us that the time is coming when we will have nothing but the word of God to stand on and that has to already be in your mind. You will have nothing, but that. But in his way prosperity is coming for you. Its all crap to me. I use to love him, until I realize Jesus was straight forward with sin. He spoke parables to the hardhearted but to others he was straight forward so was Paul and Peter and Timothy and so on. That sugar coated stuff doesn't help you when your fighting demons everyday, just to get through the day.. Shoot its hard to stay on the path there are tempations everywhere, I need to know what is going on and he is not preaching that. Well thats all I am going to say I haven't watched him in years, now so I don't know what he is preaching, but my parents watch him and love him. I don't comment other then to say, Yeah really. He is preaching what people want to hear. I need someone that is going to preach the truth to me. Before I find out that the gate is closed and I ain't getting in........... I don't watch TV Ministries except 3ABN and I watch the Gaithair Hour on TBN, thats pretty much it.

I like him. Yeah you have to get in the Word yourself daily, and your teaching should come from more than one source. Joel is about helping the Christian in every day life practically and positively.

Anyway I need to hear this today.

I like him for the same reasons I like Joyce and Creflo. They speak to certain parts of me; for Joyce - the situations/dispositions of women and with Creflo - the African American experience.

I don't limit myself to any preacher exclusively, well except my home church Pastor.

I do appreciate how at the end of Joel's messages he implores the audience "to get into a Bible-based church" ~ that is never a bad thing.
