CHI Turbo Flat Iron — 1 Inch vs. 2 Inch Models?

Chichi

I am thinking in investing in a CHI Turbo flat iron. The problem is, I don't know which version to buy...

I am transitioning so I need one that will be able to help me reach my roots well. I know that the 1 inch model will do this but it takes like 45 minutes to an hour to use.

The 2 inch model is supposed to help you achieve straight results in 20 minutes - so this is a huge plus for me.

Do you think that the 2 inch model will reach the roots well?

Also, I have read great reviews for this but don't know if everyone reviewing it was AA. How does this appliance work on AA hair?

Thanks!

I have a 2" chi turbo and it still takes me 45-60 minutes to flat iron my hair, so I don't know if there is any truth to that statement. I have very thick, dense, 4a relaxed hair and I go 3 months between relaxers. Without my chi I'd be perming every 6 weeks. It's the only thing that allows me to triple my touch up time with out breakage or excess shedding. It get's my roots straight, but not as close to my scalp and I like...so I use either the 3/4" Revlon ceramic I have or pass the backside of a curling iron over my roots while gently pulling my hair. Both work like a charm. I'd go for the 2"....but it really is a issue of preference. HTH

Thanks Cat_Eyed_Cutie. It loos like it's a trade off; either you get close to the scalp and it takes a longer time to flat iron or the other scenario where it takes a shorter time but doesn't get close to the roots.

Getting my roots straight is most important so I may just go with the 1 inch. I have a Jilbere of the same size that is just not cutting it anymore

Chichi - how come you don't like your Jilbere anymore? I currently have a Jilbere that I used one in the 1inch size. I haven't decided if I want to return it and buy the CHI for the next time I flat iron. I know you have strong waves like me...did you find that the Jilbere didn't straighten them out well enough?

to cut in my jilbere is snatching me bald. my hair just keeps getting snagged no matter how i use it. I want a chi/fhi/hai trying to get one off of ebay.

That's exactly right, hairlove. The Jilbere worked but it didn't get my strong waves completely out; it would only halfway do the job. I am looking for a way to duplicate salon results at home. I read every single review on Make-up Alley and to a one, almost everyone said that it gives silky, salon quality results. They said that the heat that the CHI provides straightens even the most stubborn hair (and this would be me

).

I ordered the 1 inch CHI and the Biosilk Silk therapy from Folica.com and already they said that my order has shipped and should be here tomorrow

. I wasn't comfortable with the price but everyone who complained about the price of the product raved so glowingly about it; so I am hoping that it will pay for itself.

I will try to post a review soon to let you know if it is really all that.

ChiChi - I can't wait to hear how this goes. I am curious to know what heat setting you used on your Jilbere though. I also want salon quality results and if I have to pay more for the right flat iron, I'll do that b/c I just don't trust stylists with this transitioning hair of mine!

hairlove, I used a 3 setting when I was close to my relaxer then a 10 setting about a month ago (I've only flat ironed twice since transitioning). The higher the setting on the Jilbere, the drier my hair felt. I also didn't like how stiff this iron made my hair feel. The CHI is supposed to make it flow. The other good news about this iron for transitioners is that the results are supposed to last (even in humidity and rain) until your next wash. We'll see...

The CHI should get hot enough for you..but out of all of the models FHI gets the hottest..

But I wonder...is hotter better? Just because a flat iron "can" get hotter than another, does it mean that you want that? Should we be concerned about the heat, too?

Ive had the Jilbere, HAI and CHI. My favorite is my CHI. I have the CHI turbo one inch. I hardly use it but it is very good. However, it does not get as close to the scalp as I would like.

Some types of hair might need more heat than others.. kwim? I don't worry about the heat because I use a heat protectant before I blowdry and then I use a Sebastian spray when I flat iron.. each part..

I really want a CHI flat iron now! I have noticed that my jibere does snag my hair, and I have a lot of little fly-aways.
I have been eyeing one for a while, and I think I am going to invest in one!

The higher the heat, the straighter the hair gets. That’s why the Dominican salons use such high heat. Many of the ladies who reviewed this iron had wavy hair and most used the Biosilk as a heat protectant. (The ad for the iron also mentions that the ceramic heat will ensure the penetration of silk molecules to the hair, so I believe that this serves as a protectant too.) Most of them use it daily with no damage. One swipe should get the hair straight as opposed to passing it over the hair several times to get it straight like I did with the Jilbere

Hmm, Chichi, I am going to get some Biosilk as well, thanks for the info.
I do have to go over my hair repeatedly with my Jibere, especially my ends, and it bothers me.
I am planning on not straightening my hair out all summer, so I will invest in a Chi towards the end of the summer!

You guys have got me a little afraid of my Jilbere now. I had some slight snagging when I used it. I guess I should take it back before my 90 days are up and go ahead and purchase the Chi or the other one I have my eye on (the $180 Bion one).

Do you mean the Ion one or is there a Bion? I paid $129 including 2 day shipping for my FHI with is ionic.. but I think you can get it for $109 from that folica.com

I had my eye on this one too. I couldn't find any reviews for it though, so I went with the CHI.

The Jilbere snagged my hair too...didn't take too much hair out but enough to make me cringe everytime before pulling it through my hair.

That one looks good!! When are you getting it?

RushGirl, I don't know. I saw a bunch of reviews on this flat iron on folica.com (I think). I was sold. It was the only iron advertised for "all hair types" and I thought the reviews were even more positive than the Chi. But when I'll be purchasing, I don't know. $180 is a LOT to spend on a hair appliance. I think the CHI is a reasonable compromise. I don't plan on straightening my hair again for 2 months so I'll decide then.

I agree Hairlove.. $180 is alot.. for me to spend that much I think it would have to be OVERWHELMINGLY better than a FHI/CHI/HAI..ya know.. the CHI is definitely a reasonable compromise for sure!!
