I'm natural and I am NOT able to differentiate new growth from the rest of my hair.

u mean there is an easier way than just to pull a section of hair and measure it with a tape measure or against a body part?

oh ok ... I C lol

I guess you can't really SEE it per se. You'd just know because your measurement is longer than last month's.

You can "see" the new growth if you're in braids etc.

Co-sign....I wasn't aware that it was complicated.

Ok. I edited my post to say I'm NOT able to. My hair pretty much maintains a consistent pattern throughout the strand so I'd like to know how you manage that without measuring (which I don't have time for). For now I just know that it gets longer.

Thanks for posting. I watched a few of her other videos and I liked the one about trimming. I am going to use her method. Because I was trying to figure out how to catch the split ends that have traveled far up the hair shaft.

I like her method of measuring But I think it is best if you measure different parts of your hair. Different sections of my hair grows at different rates sometimes. But I have breakage so If a measure more than one part then that would give me a better idea of how fast it grew versus just one part.

the only time i could tell my hair has grown as a natural was when i colored it...it actually grows alot...so nto i need to work on retaining it!! i had it died brown and highlighted so the new growth was soo obvious. i just died it black black and my hair is off black so hoepfully i can notice the difference with that.

I'm going to have to start doing this,
At first I was "anti" the tape measurer....but old girl was right....how else would you know what u're doing is working for ur hair if u don't track your growth progress? And i've come TOO far for me to stumble across a product/method that's HINDERING my hair growth!:perplexed

Well, I usually just use a tape measure. You know the ones that you pull out and it snaps back in place when you let go of it? Like so...

Mine is like this, except not as heavy-duty looking. Just a little cheapie one.

Anyway, I just position it against my scalp and pull a section of hair just beneath it and see where it stops. Pretty easy. I like using this kind of tape measure rather than the soft one (though that works too) because it kinda prevents you from pulling your scalp too much and getting a false measurement. I hope that makes sense.

I highlight my hair, and that's what I'm going to measure my new growth based on my roots, since I know how long my hair was right before I highlight it (I just grab a ruler and measure) I'll just measure the roots and add that to the length (That might be cheating :lachen:)

thanks ladies! so as i can see, naturals cant tell easily. maybe i should just get on and try again with my tape measurer. its easier with it.i also have the softer one, which helps with the method of the youtube video.

i am just to stressed to see of my hair is growing. afraid of disapointment, but again o better start mesuring a minimum if i want to know that what im doing IS WORKING!
