Hey, ladies,

How long do you think these will last? I have only ever worn cornrows for a week and a half to barely two weeks (before the NG starts kicking through). The lady that did them said they would last 6 weeks; I don't see it.

I got them done last Thursday and let's just say they don't look that neat now!! I think Robin from afrogrowlonghair.com said 2 weeks was the minimum you should wear them anyway to avoid build up. What do you think???

The good thng is, she didn't do em too tight! :D

p.s. Sorry the pic is so small; I think if you click it, it's bigger (if you can)

They look great!

Cornrows are great in that the braiding session is over fairly quickly. The downside is that they don't last as long. IMO, there are less build up concerns than with individuals. I say wear them for as long as you can. Consider rubbing a good quality gel or pomade down the length from forehead to nape and tie them up really well with a satin or silk scarf once they get fuzzier.

Thanks, patient1!

I have gotten away with just putting a hair net on em at night, but since they are getting a teeny bit fuzzy on top (but not as bad as I though after a real close look a minute ago), I may just have to break out the scarf after I moisturize and oil; I have also used some Cornrow Magic on them; the Cornrow Magic has served a similar purpose as the gel/pomade you mentioned since the consistency is similar.

Thanks, girl! ;)

I don't know about them lasting 6 weeks, but they look really good! I wish I could find someone that could braid that won't do them so tight.

Thanks, Bre Bre and Nelli,

Yeah, I don't see 6 weeks either; I can barely imagine 2, but we'll see.

The lady that did them is an African lady from the Sudan; OT, but once we got to talking, I dropped that I knew a little about henna; she was intrigued that I even knew about it, and I told her about the forum and all of the great info I get. Seeing as she co-signed on the use of it, I am DEFINITELY doing it again! :)

They look very nice. I have a cornrow ponytail and I will be taking them down this saturday which will be 5 weeks. I like cornrows because my hair grows alot faster. I have been using the boundless tresses every other day so I will post how much growth I got when I take them down. I think you may be able to stretch them to last at least a month. The funny thing about cornrows is when the hair starts to grow, the cornrows puff up and separate. My cornrows were neatly spaced when she did them for me, now you can see wide gaps because of the newgrowth. I was trying to stretch to 6 weeks, but I just can't.

I can't see how cornrows can last longer than two weeks. I used to get cornrows with extensions and it was over after two weeks. By the end of the second week, I would be rocking a scarf because I wasn't feeling the appearance. Maybe you can make them last for three weeks provided that you're putting a scarf on your head and keeping the braids moisturized w/braid spray but even that is stretching it imo if you want them too look neat and fresh.

Thanks so much for chiming in, ladies; they are quite "puffy" even with using braid spray, tying them down, and moisturizing, but still don't look too too bad. I don't think I am gonna go longer than 2 weeks!

Ooh so pretty. I was thinking about getting some done like that but wasn't sure if I'd like the look. I like those a lot.
