Cheap vs more expensive hair products?

I wanted to get your opinion on this. I lean towards the cheap side in terms of hair products. For example, I use Revlon's creme of nature shampoo and conditioner plus their lottabody product. It gives my hair sufficient slip but I have had some breakage- probably due to having hi-lights put in my hair. But are the more pricier products really that much better. What cheap products are as good as the pricier products?

I use a mixture of both for example, I use cheap conditioners like vo5 for daily rinses but use more expensive ones like ors mayo and biolage ultra hydrating balm for DCing.

DDTA and DDGB are great conditioners for co washes which provides great sliip just like Elucence or Keracare Humecto.
I also like Suave Milk and Honey and VO5 Conditioners.

I like the Sally generics of the Nexxus Humectress, Nexxus, Therappe, and Paul Mitchell Tea Tree

My hair does not receive much benefit from cheap products so I use the Aveda's, BBDs and Keracare lines and my hair does wonderfully on them.
