Can someone explain her regimen and what she does?

I know there are people on here that use her method....

Does she use direct heat twice a week?:ohwell:

Has anyone had success with this method?

Thanks In Advance Ladies...

Thanks Jersey Girl...I just order it. I dint know there was a site. I found it cheaper on Amazon. Any other tips or warnings are still useful....

I dont think she is natural. I remember her telling my personally that she uses Affirm. She may have transitioned since my speaking with her.

I think her regimen is dated...
a lot of the stuff she says is obsolete
I think the ladies on LHCF have surpassed her by leaps and bounds
you should read LHCF feature of the months
for inspiration in making your own regimen.

Basically she shampoos every 3-4 days deep conditioning every (or every other) shampoo. She also uses protein treatments for strength.

She never uses a blowdryer, but she uses a curling iron to straighten after airdrying.

She goes to a professional for her relaxers every 8-10 weeks.

She moisturizes daily with a water based product and does NOT oil/grease her scalp.

She does not use brushes.

thanks chocolatediva! you just saved me $! :lachen:

i've always wondered what her method was, but had no desire to pay for it :nono:

There is a member that used her advice and has lovely hair with progress pictures..babygurl (?). Her book comes off a little negative toward other professionals, but her advice is sound.

edited to put what I think is the members name

Huh? Are you talking about deep conditioning.... She looks like a natural that straightens judging by her picture on the website.

At the time she wrote the book (2000), she was relaxed. Now she is natural.

The ladies have all said it. But she outlines her steps in her book and tells you her reasons and why they work. HTH

I believe she stretches her relaxers to about 12 weeks and beyond.

I tried her method yes, some of it is out dated
However, I do my relaxers every 12-16 weeks I want to go every 26 weeks.
I will no longer trim or cut my hair. I went to APL using her method and then on 9-16-2008, My Hair dresser went to SL to make "all even" that was her first and last!
No brushes, Air dry. I went to the libaray and read her book.

Apparently she no longer relaxes, her website say "Relaxer Free hair since May 2004 and
I have never had this much hair in my life!"

Protective Styling? If so, why no?

She feels everyone should be free to wear their how they choose. It's a personal choice.

I did try her method and I went from dry damaged NL to between SL and APL before I slacked off. I bought all her products and while they are expensive they do work. Then I had a braid mishap and I had to cut back to NL before I found LHCF.

I still have her conditioner and moisturizer but I rarely use them cos I've found products that work as well.

I have her book (not the original, the reprinted one with the mauve cover). I will sell it (if I can find it) to anyone who is interested.

After I read her book, I realized that I'd been using "her practices" without even knowing it. Some of her advice is sound, some not so much. You have to sift through and take what makes sense to you. The no trim, no brush thing was crazy to me...the protein thing wasn't ideal for my hair...a lot of it is common sense.

So she is completely natural? If so why are people to so suprised that she is not beyond bsl? She had to cut and transition right?

yes........ but she transitioned without the BIG chop. you can make little trims now and then, without doing one large cut.

ITA. I read her book and thought she was a goddess until I came here and found another 1000+ goddesses lol. Her book is a "stepping stone" to healthy hair IMO :)

ITA, too. Reading her book was a great eye-opener and laid out the basic principles, but LHCF is where I started learning the really useful stuff.

I didn't know she as natural, she said she hadn't had a relaxer in a few years and mentions it saying that your hair wont break off despite what stylists say, but i didn't know she cut the relaxed ends off.

(ETA: my comment was already mentioned) I don't remember her saying she was completely rid of her relaxed ends anywhere.

Hi. I'm a devoted Cathy Howse regimen user. You can see my progress at fotki.com/cheveux. Although my hair is much longer, what I love most is the much improved CONDITION of my hair. It's been 17 months and the only reason I am not BSL is because I cut off about 3 inches of damaged hair. My last bad relaxer was Vitale no-lye in May '07....that is my starting pic which was after a fresh relaxer. UGGGHHHH.

Anyway, I bought the products, the book and followed her reg to a tee. Now, I have tried other products recommended by ladies on this site, but if my hair starts to feel funny, I always go back to UBH products to rescue it.

Basically she believes in:

  • stretching relaxer
  • not switching relaxer brands
  • no Petrolatum
  • no Mineral Oil
  • Deep Conditioning weekly (or twice weekly) WITH heat
  • moisturize 3 times daily.
  • No hairbrushes ever.
  • One lather shampooing
  • No products on the scalp
  • Air-drying
  • No pressing combs
  • No irons used in the Marcel ovens at the hairdresser
  • no self-relaxing
  • no trimming
  • speak up at the hairdresser, watch, and ask questions
  • no conditioning shampoos
  • wash every 3 days
Hope this helps

She transitioned without BC'ing, she just trimmed little by little...she is completely natural now...I saw her a few weeks ago. Not bone straight...looks air-dryied/flat-ironed.

She says she is at her terminal length. She says that after all these years her hair never gets longer than MBL no matter what she does.
Her hair is lovely though.
