casualties of rollersetting

okay, so i've just started getting the hang of washing my hair on my own and have been doing a terrific job, if i might add. i lose MAYBE one or two strands of hair, if that, during the whole process. Now here's the problem.i tried rollersetting last week and it seems to be more trouble then it's worth. my hair doesnt seem to like the manipulation cause im losing hair that i dont think i should be. when i airdry as normal in a ponytail i lose nothing but when i tried rollersetting i lost more hairs then i needed to. Now here's the question is there any other way i can airdry my hair without the frizzy ends and dull look?? once, after airdrying my hair i sectioned my hair into 4 and twisted the hair around itself and left it like that and the next day it came out really bouncy, curly and nice after combing it out. but the ends didnt look their best. So has anyone tried anything that has given them the look of rollers without the actual rollers or heat?? i've also tried wrapping my hair while it was wet and lost hairs & for some reason it came out tooo wavy, whereas it was tangled together.so far the closest ive come is the twists i do, i think they're called bantu knots or something

after the hair has dried.so maybe you guys could recommend a product that wouldnt leave the ends raggedy looking or a technique.
Oh yeah i tried the nexxus y system products .the serum i didnt care too much for, but then again i havent been using it as directed "twice daily"i only used it once the whole week.but i must say the shampoo and conditioner is good. esp the conditioner, great job of detangling. but i still used biolage's leave in tonic<--- this product is just too wonderful.anyone notice the tonic works better at detangling than the detangling conditioner, kinda weird. but whatev.

Well as far as another look that looks like rollersetting without rolelrs or heat, I do the following and I guess you could say it turns out how it would if you wanted a curly rollerset:
I always let my hair air dry overnight and then in the morning I spritz and add mouse and gel and it dries before I walk out the door very curly. I don't know if you're relaxed or natural, but if you're relaxed you may have to encourage the curl a little bit more my extra scrunching. Works for me whenever I wear my hair out. I can air dry daily, wear my hair out daily (if I wanted to), no heat, little manipulation. It's even more "protective" than some of my protective styles because those require extra combing.

Girl, I just had to LOL at the title of this thread. In the beginning, rollersetting was a pure nightmare for me. However, I am much better at it now. I can definitely say that practice makes perfect. Please try to continue because with a little practice, you'll be perfect in no time.

Do the twists or a braids again (while hair is wet), but this time put rollers just on the ends. I have done that before and got wavy hair plus smooth ends. Try it and let us know the result.

i dont want to use any heat so flat ironing wouldnt work. plus i dont own one nor know how to use one.

allandra i know practice makes perfect but i just hate losing hair. i have fine hair which appears thin, which i hate , so i dont wanna thin it out even more.

by the way im relaxed.
