I find it hard to believe that you can get to a point were you see no breakage.:look: Im not talking about alot of breakage. Im talking about little pieces here and there.

i think it's possible to have breakage from a "manipulation" stand point... i.e combing

ITA with the other posters...I don't get breakage...but I would if I were over manipulating or just from harsh handling

I always wanted to know the answer to that question as well. I know that I have several hair textures in my natural head. Every now and then I might see a couple of short pieces on my clothes. After reading on the forum that the longer your hair gets, you must keep your ends oiled. So I took it as if my ends were drying out. At one time, I had those little knots on the ends, or if I needed a trim, my hair tends to tangle on the ends.

I have very fine hair that is fragile by nature, so I know I will always have some breakage even if its very little.

I'm in cosmetology school and I have preformed services on all types of people with all types of hair and even with the most gentle treatment, I have never had a client that had zero breakage from washing and styling!!

I don't know if its possible. This has been heavy on my mind lately. Today I caught the tail end of Oprah and when they did a close up of her hair.....broken apex hairs, right at the top of her head standing up. I bring her up because many people on the boards have noted what beautiful hair she has - due to her personal stylist, and we know she takes care of her hair.

I have never had a period when my hair did not break during manipulation in a varying degree - with the exception of right after a relaxer retouch. I have worked on people before whose hair did not break at all and they have no broken hair "fly aways", but their hair is markedly different from mine.

I am beginning to think breakage is directly related to the foundational structure of the hair of the individual - and I am not sure if that can be "typed" or categorized. There maybe people who have the same experience, yet have very different hair textures.

It is definitely possible. I am very gentle with my hair, my hair is probably the healthiest it has been in my life and I still get a few broken hairs here and there from manipulation. I keep up with my dcing with protein and moisture. Another thing I have found is to keep my ends healthy by dusting/trimming helps a lot also. As long as I do not have excessive breakage, I feel like I am doing something right.

Regardless of how healthy your hair is, or how gentle you are, there will ALWAYS be some level of breakage. The amount of breakage is what's important.

While strong, our hair strands are not made of steel. There will be manipulation, and just general wearing down of the cuticle over time. A few broken hairs after combing, washing, etc is ok. It's when your shirt and bathroom counter and floor are covered with broken hair that you have a problem.

My hair is pretty health, and I still get a few (1-10) broken hairs a day.

One thank you is not enough! I wish you could shout this from the mountaintops or something!

I always have short hairs sticking up here and there and they're not limited to the top, sides, back, middle and I also know that I don't have a problem with breakage.

The only thing I'm sure of is that hair grows constantly. Our scalps are constantly shedding hair and new hairs grow in their places. So even if someone's hair looks like absolute perfection, you'll still see the shorties popping here and there and the thicker your hair is (density wise) the more noticeable those hairs will be.

Not saying that everyone has a breakage problem because they very well could :look:, it's just that none of us will ever have a head of hair that's 100% all the same perfect length simply because of the hair's growth cycle.

My hair is healthy and long, but I too have a small amount of breakage in the front and crown area. I did notice that these sections have the driest hair so that could be why. I don't worry about it and I know that my hair isn't going to be 100% perfect but its good enough for me. As far as the flyaways in the front, nothing a little coffee butter can't slick down :drunk:
