I am an avid hair watcher (like most of you). I love to look at all nationalities, genders and races of hair. My daughter and I have coined a phrase called "7th grade hair" which is basically broken off and chipped off hair. When I look at AA girls with damaged hair I begin to diagnosis their hair. I can pretty much tell if they have chemical damage, use alot of gel, heat and spritz or if they don't drink enough water. I don't necessarily tell them what I am thinking. I notice that I do this often, does anyone else do this?

I will be speaking to a diversified group of girls occassionaly in 2007 and the theme this year will be beautiful you, I can't wait to address hair, they are very interested in hair and makeup.

I don't really have anything to add except I think the "7th grade hair" thing is funny!

Not so funny when the woman is 40!

I am glad my "7th grade hair" days are over.

I find myself diagnosing all the time....Usually the problem is lack of moisture/conditioning. But I also can tell heat and chemical damage, and of course color damage.

When ever I see hair now I start putting the hair in categories since coming to LHCF...I say oh thats hair is 4a, 3b, natural, etc...its like an addiction and I cant stop, its automatic now. The 7th grade hair thing is too funny!

Yes, it's really fun. I wish I was in a position to gather all the young girls of the world and tell them to put down the curling iron,.

I can tell if it's heat damage, too much gel, plain ol' bad hair care practices, etc. Nobody listens to me, though. :ohwell:

I do the exact same thing, especially since I've taken the healthy hair route, and I also think back about some of the things that damaged my hair (when I used to relax), indeed it's fun:)

Shoot, with your head of hair, they should be holding their ears open wider, stretching them bad boys OUT, trying to hear what you have to say!

And yep, I read hair too! I can't help myself...after being on this board, it just comes naturally!

yes i do look at hair altogether differently now.

i notice hair and think what type and condition it is in, i never say anything to anyone, i also notice weave and think of the condition of the hair under it or is she is using a protective style.

it is fun especially when you notice someone with fab hair and u start to wonder what she uses on it.

Me, too:):)

Yep, I do it too ever since joining LHCF.

That's awesome that you are conducting a class about healthy hair to young girls/ladies!:)

I usually take a risk and ask them but I find that most of them don't tell the truth or they leave out the intricate details.

How can you tell if they're not telling the truth? Do they say something off the wall that you know goodness well they couldn't possibly be doing to their hair?

Yup, i do it subconciously, kind of how we as humansform anoppinion on a person in the first few seconds of meeting them? Apply it to hairand thats me,and sometimes i am DYING to rec/ a product or do the hair for them, ESPECIALLY as we at LHCF know all hair has potentional, and you know that girl/woman has probably given up, i just want to give them some hope.
