Can you flat iron "dirty" hair?

What I mean is, should hair be freshly washed prior to flat ironing?

I washed my hair on Saturday and have applied some products since then . . . not sure if flat ironing tomorrow would be a good idea . . . .

Thanks!

IMO that would be a bad idea just from experience. If you are going to flat iron, your hair should not be coated with too much product. When I was using heat a year ago I would wash/apply coconut oil and leave in conditioner/air dry/then apply a heat protectant--wait til that dries...THEN FLAT IRON and then i dust my ends if I'm going to curl them. LOL long process but it comes out shiny, and sooo smooth and bouncy. The less damage the better!

Not a good idea. You'll just "bake" the dirt into your hair. The oils and dirt from your scalp will cook on the iron and singe your hair.

I flat iron on freshly washed hair only. I will not even flat iron it the day after a wash...too risky.

ITA dirty hair and flat irons just don't mix. It may seem tedious to have to wash, condition and dry your hair but the results will be so much better and your hair will thank you for it.

As said you're just baking dirt and grease into your hair. It's never a good idea to curl or flat iron dirty hair.

That's what I thought, but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks guys!

P.S. - Kari, your hair is bee-you-tee-ful!!!
