I'm planning on correcting my textirizer.I'm either going to texlax or just go bone straight.is it safe to go over hair that has already been processed with no lye with lye?

I heard that the degree of straightness the the no lye relaxer left your hair in is permanent ....until you grow it out....my understanding is that lye cannot correct no lye...

Please be careful. You could seriously damage your hair. Some may be able to do this with no problem. I hope you find the answer you seek.

That's how I got my hair fugged up a few months ago. Don't do it. Definitely don't do it without a knowledgeable stylist. I went to a stylist to get it done, but she obviously had no idea what she was doing.

According to Shamboosie, with a no-lye the straightness is "locked" and cannot be altered any further.

This is true. (Also see Supergirl's reply above). I tried to correct my underprocessed no-lye hair when I switched to lye in April this year. I touched up my roots and then for the last five minutes of processing I applied the relaxer to my previously relaxed hair. It did nothing to correct the underprocessed parts, so I am left with two textures, and I risked damaging my hair to correct. (I haven't experienced any ill effects. My hair is not breaking or shedding any more than usual).

I recently switched from no-lye to lye and had no porobles whatsoever. I applied the lye on my new growth and ends. I used a protein deep conditioner afterwards.

hmmm sounds to me if u need to correct it, u would have to correct it with no lye and possibly switch to lye later on down the line. I would wait a very long time to switch to lye if u plan on correcting the no lye first. It sounds like the Lye relaxer will lock in whatever degree of straightness you had with the no lye. Maybe in like 6 to 8 months after a good long stretch and lots of treatments, you could retouch your new growth with lye and if u choose to go over the rest of it, I would only do it for a couple of minutes before washing it out.

Ill be sticking with no lye because Im texlaxed and afraid one day if I ever decide to go straighter I wont be able to bc the texlaxed hair will be permanant at that point if I went over it with lye. I like having the option to go bone straight down the road if I choose too...

To my knowledge you can correct no lye with no lye. Why? Because I did it! My third time texlaxing left me looking natural. It was tough but I waited about 15 weeks and I had about 3.5 (plus new growth) inches to correct. I did that and sure enough it loosened up all 3.5 inches.

I would never put Lye relaxer over no-lye relaxed hair. Please don't do that, stick with no-lye if you want to for now, or stretch so that there is no chance of overlapping lye with no-lye.
