I texturize once/year, but not because I have to. There's no breakage or anything. So you definitely can texturize once and never again.

Good question and thanks for the answer above... I was wondering this for my long term goals... I just started texturizing from bone straight and plan to eventually stop everything.

You could texturize less often, but I'm not sure if you's really want to texturize just once, I guess it depends on the extent of texture change. In any case, it'll still be important to take are of the hair, and especially incorporate protein, to keep it from breaking.

You could but what would you do with your new growth? It's going to be growing out your natural texture.

well i don't mind i like my natural hair, its just i wanna get rid of theses knots on the...if i did it i probably would do it like 30 percent

I texlax to 50%.
My hair likes light protein applied in small amounts everyday.
I've added SAA, oat protein, wheat protein or collagen to every leave-in or moisturizing product in the house.

The rest of my reggy's in my siggy. It's basically Aveda, Eqyss, and the stuff i make. :yep:

Well I've read in other threads about this on the board that if your hair tangles while it's natural, it's going to do the same thing texturized. You might just have to change how you take care of your hair.

my hair isn't hard to deal with its just these ends and i trimmed them and they did the same thing so maybe if i tex i won't have to worry about it...i still wanna keep my big hair and all that stuff that comes with being natural i just wanna get these ends together

I did when I first went "natural". I got so tired of those little knots. It worked . I put an optimum mild in my hair for about five minutes. It didn't change my texture but the knots did stop. I'm actually thinking about doing it again but I'm scared. I also applied the relaxer to damp hair so I could monitor my curl pattern.

Do you trim regularly? How do you usually wear your hair? Do you manipulate it a lot?

I meant how you care for your hair as in how you wash and detangle. I know some naturals have to do it in sections to cut down on knots. Some people may not feel like doing all that. I don't have a knot problem but my hair is still short so that might change.

no either its braided under a wig or its a wash and go under a wig or it in braids, but i wanna wear my hair out more...my hair is so pretty while wet and moist, but when it dries fully it look like a H.A.M

You might want to just try some new products. You might be getting knots from putting the wash and go under the wig. Is it still wet when you put the wig on? I do this but I don't get tangles or knots in my hair.

If that doesn't work then I'd say look up texturizers on the board. I know some people have added oil to a relaxer so that it doesn't get all the way straight. It's your hair and you know what's best for it.

I first did it over ten years ago when I first went "natural". All of the texturized hair has been trimmed off. (I used to trim about 4 inches off each year) I am currently trying to grow out my hair to BSL and the ends keep getting little knots on them. The hair will start to fray at the knot location then it breaks. So even though I haven't cut my hair all year I'm still at about APL. I'm thinking about being more agressive this time with the texturizer. I'm sick of my shrinkage. I shink up to ear length. My hair has appeared the same length for 12 years. The only time I can reaaly see progress is when I have it pressed.

Yes you can but you will no longer be natural until all the chemical hair has been cut out. What is the purpose of using a texturizer once a year? If chemical service is going to be few and far between why do it? Just curious.

If you don't have the internal natural\nonnatural debate then it shouldn't be a problem.

my first experience with a texurizer was when I was pregnant. my natural hair went crazy with tangles! I combed the texurizer through just my ends and it got rid of the tangles. I texurized once and didn't use anymore chemicals for a few years and had no problems.

now I wear my hair texurized from root to tip. I'm a single mom and i'm in medical school I don't have as much time to spend detangling my hair and I started having breakage with my natural hair. so now every 4-5 months I retouch. the texurizer does not loosen my curls but it smooths the cuticle or something and takes away the frizz which makes it easier to detangle (less breakage) and I don't have to use as much product for curl definition.

hope this helps
