I think you could do that. I think they are basically just parting and combing the product from root to ends. There are some curly pudding substitutes in the recipe forum and there was a thread on this forum about other cheaper products that do the same thing.
If no Curly Pudding, try Fantasia IC Gel with a creamy leave-in. You just need something thick and heavy for weight. I also used to like Bubble Up Styling Pudding as a cheaper alternative.
A faster way is to section your hair, apply a little Fantasia IC gel and brush through w/ your denman...lasts for about 3-5 days w/ a satin scarf, 2 (maybe) 3 with a bonnet, all you have to do is spray with a wet leave in and fluff...after a while, it starts to look like a curly fro...depending on your texture, it may only look like a curly fro...you have to try it to find out
To shingle my hair I wash and dc or cowash..I may apply my cantu leave-in or just go str8 to fantasia ic gel. You do not ave to have kcc. I section my hair apply gel to a small section and brush through with my fake denman. It's really the brush that gives the effect. All you're doing is basically brushing some product through ur hair in sections with a denman or rubber brush denman knock-off. Pretty easy. After you have brushed through a section do not touch it..let it dry. You can add accessories and dress it up if you want to. My shingles can last up to a week. I wash my hair once a week anyway. To see my results go Here HTH love. Try it. Maybe I'll do a step-by-step pic tutorial next time I do it or make a video.
