My hair is 3b/3c and usually can get straight easily in the past, but ever since I embarked on a hair journey I can't get past the bushy stage

I was my hair, deep condition it, and then apply my heat protectant. For some reason my hair gets straw-like and busy. Is it because I'm applying too much or too little heat protectant? Also everytime I've tried this (twice so far) my hair turns out really, really dry.

I want to start rollersetting my hair because my hair is getting longer and I'm getting tired of wash n gos. I don't want to make the same mistake as before.

What can I do to ensure I get a great rollerset? What type should I buy? I'm thinking about getting non-heat rollers because my hair after a wash if I leave it stretched it pretty much stays that way. Any rollers you would suggest?

TIA

Are you applying a leave in?
Are you blow drying?
Is your flat iron up too high?
Does your heat protectant contain alcohol?
Perhaps you need to use a serum when flat ironing?

what type of deep conditioner are your using sounds like it might be a protein, or you are not deep conditioning long enough before straightening. I use the same regimen as you when i straighten and my hair come out beautiful, but i do deep condition with a MOISTURE deep conditioner for at least 6 hrs that was the difference that made my hair go from straw live to flowing in the wind. go to search and look up westndnbeauty on here and youtube i use her straightening method she had a thread on here its called "the secret to straight hair in one pass"

Theresamonet - No, I'm not using a blow dryer or any leave-in. A close friend of mine suggested I first blow dry (I'm going to try that) and also your tip on using hair serum. Thanks!

whiteoleander91 - A normal cheap one  sorry, I can't remember the name.

tamm - I use QP Elasta Deep Conditioner.. Thanks for the link, I'm going check that ou
