Can silicone-based products weaken relaxer results

I think I read this somewhere and I'm wondering if it's true. I just started using Ion Anti-Frizz Oil Free Glosser and I'm worried that if and when I get a relaxer this product will cause problems.

The only bad thing I've heard about cones for the hair is the build up issue as they coat the hair shaft. I'm not sure even in the extensive discussion about cones on this board that they weaken the hair. But don't take my word for it, they may just do that. I've never had any adverse reaction to cones, a lot of ladies love them, some hate them for their hair.

But you know how people use conditioner to help protect their previously relaxed hair from overlapping because conditoner seems to dilute the relaxer? I'm wondering if build-up from silicone-based products has a similar effect. I suppose if I'm really worried about it I should just make sure to use a clarifying shampoo.

caress, i bet it would since they do coat the hair. like you said, just do a clarifying shampoo and avoid those products right before you get a touchup. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Caress,

I agree about the Clarifying Shampoo solution - because I know we all know everyone has different expereinces - but I use quite a bit of silicone and I've never had this problem. I wouldn't worry.

Caress -

Are you relaxing yourself or did you find a salon? I believe you are from Philly too, just curious to see if you found a good spot.

Ok so a clarifying shampoo it is.

Carrie I still haven't found a new salon but I haven't really been actively looking. I am interested in this salon near Willow Grove Mall though called Indulgé. There was an article about it and the woman that owns it (along with her husband) said that she wanted her salon to be more professional when compared to a lot of salons around today. It's actually a full service salon on Easton Road. She's still struggling a bit to get more business so I figured that maybe I'd give that salon a try if I do decide to get my hair relaxed. If I don't get my hair relaxed I'm probably going to get some two strand twists. In that case, I want to go to a good natural hair salon--maybe Au Naturale in Germantown, Kinki Kreations in Olney or Logan I beleive, or Duafe Holistic on South Street. Yeah I've really made up my mind! /images/graemlins/smirk.gif
