Can I protein condition 4 days before a touchup?

Hi ladies,

I'm going to get a touch up soon, and I've noticed some breakage so I want to do a protein treatment (followed by a moisturising treatment) to build up strenght before I relax it. Do you think its safe?

I think the additional protein would benefit your hair since relaxers weaken your hair strands. Personally, I use a mild protein (Nexxus Keraphix, Aubrey's GPB or Motions Silk Protein) followed by a moisturizing conditioner. I wait until the first wash after my retouch to do a stronger protein treatment (Aphogee).

Either way, you should be safe. Just make sure you do a deep moisturizing conditioner afterwards.

I usually use a protein conditioner 7 days or so before a relaxer touch-up. I think doing one 4 days prior is fine.

I do it to protect my strands, 3 or 4 days before.

Maybe the reason it is not suggested that one do a proetin condit before a relaxer is because the relaxer may have a harder time breaking the hair down (*straightening it). However i think i'll continue to do mine, because my hair is porous and weak anyway and i think the additional protein helps my hair in the long run.

I give myself a protein treatment one week prior to touch up and 1 week after with great success.

Me too...one week prior and one week after, unless my stylist does one right after the touch up...then I wait four weeks....

Same here. I use Keraphix one week before my touch up and Emergencee one week after.

I use GPB or Dudleys Hair Rebuilder 4 days before and 4 day after a touch up.
