CAN I PRESS MY HAIR BEFORE RELAXING IT?

My last relaxer was about 5 month ago and i was underprocessed, so i wore braids for 4 out of the 5 months. Now its time to relax and i was wondering if i could lightly flat iron the new growth then apply the relaxer. This would make it easier for me to apply and smooth in the relaxer. What do you think??

IMO I don't think it would be a good idea. While it may make it easier to to smooth it may make it harder to spot your new growth. Also, before a relaxer there should be minimal manipulation so flat ironing may be too much and then theres the heat that can cause problems.

I agree. Before a relaxer you really want to manipulate the scalp as little as possible. If you want to flat iron, I would do it at least 3 days prior to the relaxer. Kari is right, though, you may make it harder to "see" your newgrowth.

Yeah skip hot combing the new growth in preparation for a touch up. Not a good idea at all. Too much manipulation, won't be able to tell the difference between the new growth or the previously relaxed hair and you are temporarily breaking down the bonds in the hair with heat and THEN you are going to put permanent chemicals to permanently break it down further? Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Go to a professional.

Heat is just bad (and I say this as a regular heat user), but even worse before a relaxer.

Maybe you should get someone to professionally do the relaxer for you.
