Can i do a baking soda rinse followed by a protein treatment?

Or a protein treatment, then baking soda in my dc? Ive done the backing soda in the dc thing before and it made my curls (natural) really elongated (going to blow out my hair and get it trimmed). Since they are both chemicals, will using them together effect my hair negatively? Thanks!
