So I was at church and my pastor shared a great story.
He just came back from a "pastors' retreat" where he and a bunch of pastors go golfing and just chill. Well, last year they decided to go to South Beach (not the typical place you'd expect pastors to go) but it was cool for them bc that's where the playoffs were happening. So they're cool with Avery Johnson (Dallas Mavericks Coach) and end up sitting courtside at the game. Afterwards they go back to the players hotel at the Four Seasons and pastor and Avery and other pastors are playing dominos while Stackhouse and other players are coming in and out of the room. So all of a sudden, Avery pulls my pastor to the side and said - let me talk to you outside. So they go outside and he tells my pastor that everything that's been happening to him (being the 1st black coach to make it to the NBA finals; Being named "Coach of the Year" after only 1 full year of coaching, etc) is no suprise. He said that God revealed all of this to him long ago. That in high school he promised God that if God granted him the desires of his heart, he'd make sure that God could trust him. He then turned to my pastor and said, "Can God trust you?" My pastor said he was taken back, but continued to listen. Avery went on to say that he drives a Ford Expedition even though he's obviously PAID and Mark Cuban (owner of the Mavericks) offered to buy him a Bentley. Pastor was like, "why didn't you accept it?" Avery said that he has soooo many distractions around him that its toooo easy to get caught up in the material things and get sidetracked and then start worshipping material items. He said he bought his wife a Mercedes, but he's more than OK pushing an Expedition. He went on to say that God will grant us WHATEVER we desire as long as he can TRUST us with it. If He can't trust us with the small things we have now - if we wont give Him praise and be faithful and honest and kind NOW, how much worse will it be if He gives us more things? At that point my pastor said he "got it". He broke down crying and said He made a vow to change the areas of his life that he knows God can't trust him in and basica areas where he can make improvements. I really appreaciate how honest my pastor is - he is soooo real. So, I'm making some changes too, bc I know God has soooo much in store for me, but He has to be able to trust me with everything.
So, my LHCF sisters in Christ - can God trust you with EVERYTHING???? And if not, let's make some concrete changes so that we can soon answer that question affirmatively.
Be Blessed
