Since I wash my hair every week,I always have build-up by the end of the week. So I start out my wash with Denorex shampoo, its really for dandruff but works so well for clarifying. My scalp and hair feels so clean and it has a minty refereshing feeling. But sometimes I may use it every other wash. And then I proceed with a moisturizing shampoo.
Re: Can anybody suggest a good clarifying shampoo.
Hi MissJ!
I wish I could take credit for this idea,but it came from an old board. I have been doing this for about 3 years now. This method dissolves the product buildup and rinses away clean. And my favorite shampoo does double duty as a clarifying shampoo.
Re: Can anybody suggest a good clarifying shampoo.
On an old thread I read someone asked about using neutralizing shampoo as a clarifier. The theory was that if it removed relaxer could it not be used to remove product build-up. Someone replied yes it could be used as a clarifier. This question didn't get many responses, so I quess I'm asking it again.

Hey D-,
That may have been my post. I started using my Motions Neutralizing shampoo, and I feel in love with it (thank God, because this $10 bottle is huge)....so now I use it as a regular shampoo, and I alternate it with the Creme of Nature Moisturing Shampoo. However, I may have to try adding a bit of baking soda once a month, and seeing if that makes any difference.
But in my case, my hair is pretty dry and it doesn't need much clarifying. I think just switching up on my two favorite shampoo is going to do it for me.
I actually posted my inquisitive thread on clarifiers because my scalp felt like it needed to be clarified moreso than my hair. So now, I occassionally use a cotton ball soaked with apple cidar vinegar to cleanse my scalp (by this time, olive oil is already on my hair as a pre-shampoo treatment) and then after 5 minutes, I shampoo. That has worked to get the build-up off my scalp.
I bought the Herbal Essence Clarifying Shampoo from Rite Aid.. They had a sale. But this was my first experience with a clarigying poo... I don't like it. It stripped everything out of my hair and it's taking me a minute to get the moisture back... Not sure how often I'll be using this. But it smells good though.
what's the difference between a clarifying shampoo and just any other shampoo that has a bunch of sulfates in it? And is one of the indications that you need to clarify is dry hair? I've noticed that lately when I wash my hair with my CON, it isnt as silky as it used to be...
I use Suave Clarifying poo. I follow it with CON. When Suave is all gone, I'm gonna switch to something that's not as drying.... i'm looking into Pantene
Hair Lady,
Shampoos that have these two ingredients:
(a) SLS (SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE);
(a) SLES (SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE).
If you use a clarifying shampoo every day, or any shampoo that has these two ingredients (referred to under a and b)
in them every day, you WILL LOOSE MOISTURE OF YOUR HAIR.
