Can all conditioners double as Leave-in's?

I have read where some people are using 'regular' conditioners as leave in. I am on a hunt for a great leave in conditioner, and am a little confused about this. Is there a film left over if you use a regulare conditioner as a leave in? What are you all using as Leave-ins. My edges are ate up and I need all of the conditioning and moisture I can get to get this stuff growing again.
