Can a person with lye relaxed hair touch up roots with no-lye

I've done it many a times. It is suggested that you stick with the same relaxer and the same type of relaxer. But if you decide to switch then i don't see any issue. Last Feb, I used to always get a lye and then i decided to get a phyto and then i went back to lye. I didn't notice any damage at all, but i can still see the fluffiness in the no-lye section when it's wet, but i don't have an issue with it...it still looks the same. Man even my last stylist used to switch back n forth without my knowledge...how do i know?? I'm just assuming based on the results... because sometimes my hair would act right for 2months and other times right after 4 weeks my hair would revert and be nappy (no-lye). Go for it...just don't make it a habit...

So no-lye makes hair revert faster. Is that the same as being underprocessed?

Hmmm, I only tried Phyto once. I loved it, when I was rinsing it, but I used their 'Milky Reconstructer' and it made my hair hard and fluffy. So anyways, my first time was a good experience, but i never had the nerve to try it again (without the milky reconstructor). I believe it would work for me but i just don't have the nerve to try it again.... Mizani is working just fine... :look:

hi! Yes from my experience with my hair. If i use a no-lye, my hair is back to nappy-ish the 4th week. I have absolutely no body and my roots have reverted (i used to think i had alot of newgrowth). I THINK this means my roots were underprocessed, but i would hate to think that I have to keep on relaxing my underprocessed hair every 4 weeks, as a cycle. Well anyways, that's why i use lye...U can't go wrong. It takes exactly 11mins flat for my stylist to relax my hair with mizani lye, and then i am rinsed and my hair is bone straight.... My relaxer lasts for about 7-8 weeks, which means it still looks good. but now i'll even stretch to 12 weeks and keep it in simple pony styles for the last extra month.

I've also gone from lye to no lye & no lye to lye with no ill effects. I'm not a fan of lye b/c it burns & flakes my scalp so bad, it does straigten but only when left on for 30mins or more which caused breakage for me. I've gone back to no-lye for GOOD!

I just did. For my hair texture, 4B, I can't get my hair straight with lye (or maybe it was just the brand I was using-- don't really know). I went back to what works for me. I did a corrective relaxer with no lye and it took really well. Next time I'm going to use Mizani's no-lye. But for me, no-lye straightens better than lye.

I made a switch for no-lye to lye with no problem.
When I use to relax at home from an out the box kit, it came out great. But when I went to the salon or had my mom relax, they used lye. It was back and forth with my hair for along time. But at the same time, my hair was alot shorter. I kinda did not care as long as it was straight. With your hair progress, you have more to lose.....

Thanks ladies I guess I will not be in any serious danger. LOL I am still stretching my relaxer to 5 months. If by then I decide to get a relaxer I think I might go ahead and try Phyto.

I have been on lye since august.

I like the strength in my hair, but with working out daily for the past month or so, I have trouble with the texlaxing, so I may try a no lye, although I hate the superfine feel it give my hair.

(le sigh)
