Camille LeNoir speaks on the evils of Pro Sports

Her locs sure are pretty nice. Listening to the testimony now. Anyone can fall into sin. There are many upstanding and moral sports professionals.

^^ So true Guitarhero. And homosexuality isn't the only sin that can jeopardize one's soul.

I don't think Pro Sports itself is EVIL. Afterall it's a job like any other. It's the focus of each individual player. There are Christian athletes.

In her case, she agreed to join a lifestyle which is prevalent in the WNBA that was against her nature. I actually think it was probably easier for her "to be gay" in the WNBA than straight.

I see so many young high school girls that have "decided" that they are gay it is unbelievable. It's the newest fashion statement.

In the grand scheme of God's Kingdom, college and professional sports are a distraction. The amount of time, money, and idol worship devoted to them boggles my mind. I know I was caught up into it for years, but gradually lost interest after He called me out.

With that being said, Our Father has been calling out and sending His servants to minister to people in these areas. Ten world-class divers failed during the 2000 Summer Olympic Games as a much older Laura Wilkinson turned in some amazing dives. I still remember the shock I got when the first thing out of her mouth was "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13)." Reggie White played and ministered in the NFL for 15 years. The media will not admit Barry Sanders left football because of his belief in Jesus (check his story out and be prepared to be shocked). Recently, I had learned of another player who turned down a lucrative contract because Gos told him to take care of his family (his father is gravely ill). There are probably more stories not being told, but I do believe there will be an increase of godly people helping others seek Him during the darkening days ahead.

I totally agree.

Wouldn't that be a talent rather than a waste of time? Some talents are meant to be used quickly, others, not. Sportsmanship is not an invention of the U.S., it's ancient and tribal. It's physical ability. We could equally say that getting a higher education is a waste of time because anyone can work any job and get by. She didn't have to commit whatever it is she committed but to charge sports as the culprit, that's lame. Go Jayhawks! :giggle:

Yep! I was thinking about higher education as well as just the workplace when watching this video. Even though she gave a good testimony, you can get caught up into a sin in any circumstance. Not just in the professional sports arena. Going to school and working 8 hours or more a day takes up a significant amount of time in a person's life too. Just like people who speak of the evils of watching tv, shopping at malls, and going to amusement parks. Someone can be given into homosexuality or any sin in any environment.

There is nothing wrong with recreation, which is what sports was supposed to be about, but what is going on is so far from that. Everything that goes on in the world should be measured by the standard He set up. If it is not of His Kingdom, it will become a distraction from one's mission in life and ripe for corruption of body and spirit.

The comparison of sports to getting a degree falls flat due to the nature of where He may want us to go to gain knowledge and/or seek employment. The only time advance education is a problem is when it is held in high regard instead of being one of many tools used to help spread the Gospel.

I cannot make anyone see any of this. Do some research and ask Him for guidance.

Aside from obvious sin, what's wrong with recreation being lucrative and developing into a profession? Hair salons aren't of His Kingdom either but who would consider those borderline sin dens? Anything can become a sin if used wrongly. Physical ability is none other than that and if people will pay to witness it, like they pay to listen to christian concerts, I see nothing wrong with it. Shrugs...go Jayhawks! We might advance this evening.

Sports medicine is incredible! Some of that technology is used for the general public as a result of attempting to keep athletes in the game. It's having a positive effect on prolonging the physical abilities of the general public. Per the bolded, I do research all day long, every day...always something new to learn and He does give me guidance. It's just not in accordance with what you believe.:look:

Troy Polamalu is an honorable orthodox christian man who is married and has children. He's a committed christian and a very valuable Steeler. He remains faithful to the Church and is not the sole good example. As for the guy who turned down the contract, that was simply the will for His individual life. Others have been told to quit med/law/whichever school etc., not because it's "seedy" but because that wasn't His will for their individual life. Paul?

The sad consequences of the gay rights agenda. It's sending the wrong messages to children and they KNOW this. They know that if they can influence the children, they are developing a new generation which makes their lifestyle acceptable. Children are 'followers', and they are being convinced that it's okay to follow that way; being led down a path of deception.

It's not surprising...the Word of God speaks of how this has happened before...and the consequences which followed.

I don't see college or sports as evil. College is necessary. I want my doctors, farmers and accountants to know all they can about their profession. I don't like how much it costs though. I see nothing wrong with competition or sports. What we choose to do with/to the winners and losers is the problem.

I agree with you Nymphe-I too used to be a sports fan until I got saved. I used to idolize certain football stars. But, God also lead me away from this and told me to be set apart from the world and it's entertainment. I haven't gotten into football since.
Later I found a wonderful series on the dangers of sports that confirmed the conviction on my heart. I'll share it for those who are interested :)

Something that I have been thinking about over the past year is how easy it can be to think that the problem is in the environment rather than within myself. The fact is that anywhere you are in the world, sin will abound. Any organization that is not submitted to Christ's lordship will lead people away from Him. The environment is not what makes us sin--it is that which is within us, our own desires which lead us into temptation; and until we die to those, ungodliness will fill our lives wherever we are--even in "holy" places like church.

Nevertheless, in being a holy and separate people, I think every Christian must come to the point of really evaluating whether they have forged "unholy alliances" (refer to King Jehoshaphat and Ahaz) and have joined up with something that, on the whole, yokes them with unbelievers in ungodliness. We are ever "in the world," but many times our choices, even unwittingly, lead us to become "of the world." Miss LeNoir seems to believe that the evils of pro sports (at least in women's basketball) are inherent in the institution itself rather than something she could attribute to individual choices.

Without making a judgment about pro sports in general, I would say that the Lord reveals things to everyone according to where they are in their particular walk. There are many genuine Christians in lots of arenas that the Lord may very well call them out of as they grow in understanding. So I believe that it's important to listen to those believers who are indicating that the path may be yet more narrow. They may have seen something that we have not yet apprehended.

^^ ITA Nicola, God has His people everywhere and in every arena in life, even in sports. From her testimony, it seems more her personal choices than the sports environment itself.
