Calling all THICK natural ladies

Hey !

I would really like to do conditionner washes every other days, deep conditionning more often but I find that it will be too much manipulation.

I can air dry with doing big braids (otherwise it will be a tangled mess), but my hair takes a while to dry and in the morning (I wake up at 5h30), it's long to undo them and then style... I have bangs and it's hard for me to do a pony tail without a lot of bobby pins and I've haven't figure out how to slicked down my hair.

Twists are my signature style, but if I wet them, forget it, it will be all tangled.

The shrinkage factor bugs me as hell, but I have to get used to it.

Sorry I don't have direct questions, I guess I'm just venting. :ohwell:

I have thick natural hair. I usually wear it as a wash and go, twists or twistouts. I just let my hair airdry.

Anyone else kinda struggle with thick hair and shrinkage ?

my hair is extremely thick and getting long
i have started air drying about 4 braids
i don't have time for twists anymore unless they r big
i find it is easier to wash and condition every 2 weeks in the winter

I'm too tenderheaded to do co washes. I don't have the time to detangle and I fear if I do a wash n go, I'll spend the week trying to pick out the tangles. I wash weekly and retwist. If I need to wash my twists in between washes, I just squeeze the shampoo down the twists and after I'm done, I pull it into a pony tail. Stretching out the twists while wet seems to help minimize the tangling. HTH!

Thanks for the answers !

Jenteel: Right now I wash every 2 weeks because of the winter. My hair and scalp like to be washed at least once a week or it will be a mess and my hair will dry out no matter what moisturizer. I find that it's too time consuming washing my hair. I'm still new to this thing.

There's a member here, I swear she's my hair twin. She has post bra-strap lenght, she has a website on Picaso or something and she has a "how to" journal about searching on LHCF.

I'm going to PM her for sure, cause she CO wash everyday apparently :D

Dearlove: I'll take the advise about washing twists, thanks!

i feel your venting its really tough sometimes having natural big hair.

i dont know how "thick" my hair is but its also not thin just tonight i had a plan with the magnetic rollers to set my hair but it would NOT dry so I ened up flat ironing it :( even tho i am not supposed to, i jus got sick of fooling with it and said fine da*mnt i am flat ironing you....

i tried not to be to harsh with it, but at this rate i am probably messing up my ends which look like they could use a good trim.

the other messed up thing is my hair is so long now that when it is straight its kinda annoying.:perplexed

I also have thick natural hair..i can manage it most of the time..lol..as far as shrinkage stretch to show length...i dont wash really often due to the winter..but i think this is helping me retain length along with cornrows as a protective style..

I have thick hair that's almost natural. In the spring and summer I co-wash like 3 times a week but in the winter I can't do it that often or my hair would never dry. I use protective styling in the winter then around April I start to co-wash again regularly. I use a denman brush, load up with conditioner, only detangle under running water with conditioner and go from ends up. It only takes me 5 min. to detangle. I airdry in a banded ponytail or bun with moisturizer.

Then again my hair is a little past shoulder length so I'm not dealing with A LOT of hair..... yet. ;)

Good luck!!

Lately, I've been washing my hair once a week, then slicking it down with carol's daughter healthy hair butter. I also have been conditioning my hair with coconut milk/olive oil for 2 -3 hrs, before I shampoo. This method has been working quiet well.

I may get twist this week so I can give my hair a rest for a while.;)

When I wash, condition and moisturize my hair when they're in twists and let them air dry in a ponytail my hair becomes very manageable and pliable.

Well, I found that what works for me is frequent wetting vs washing. I wash and comb my hair weekly- two weeks and in between that time, I wet my hair, apply conditioner, then rinse it out. I don't comb it or anything. This helps with length retention.
