CALLING ALL Naturals!!!!

Hi All

I wanted to know what products you ladies use to keep your natural tresses soft, beautiful, and healthy??!:)

I recently did a big chop, cutting about 8 in of relaxed hair last week and leaving about 4 in of NG. This is the second time going natural. In 04 my natuarl hair was almost armpit when stretched then i relaxed and didnt take care of it! Oh My how i regret that  Although i have twist right now i wanted to know what products to use when i take them out. I have my KeraCare Produts (which i love:) ) but i wanted to use different products for my natural hair. HELP ME OUT LADIES

BTW I've hear Aveda and Giovanni is good for naturals has any one tried?

  • I use Henna and coconut milk as a prepoo/deep conditioner this has really made a massive difference for my hair.
  • Water and Vegtable Glycerine i use as a moisturiser and i also use shea when twisting/ for hold.
  • I have the Aveda Elixir- Its ok, its being discontinued so i'm not sure what i'll use next- it lasted an unusually long time for me:confused: and i used it every wash- seems like it'll never end:lol:
I would say point number One has made the most difference, as well as Aphogee 2Minutes- unlike other naturals my hair loves protein.

I LOVE Humectress, and all of Oyin's products. I don't wear my hair loose - it's not worth the headache of tangles. I do moisturize my hair daily with a mist - right now it has Humectress, water, and a little bit of a thickening hair oil in it.

Um - my hair LOVES henna - loves it! And I stay far, far, far any from cones, as my hair demands moisture on a daily basis - cones block moisture, and any shampoo that would strip the cones from my hair is too harsh for my hair in general. I cowash weekly with a cheapie conditioner. I mist daily. I don't really USE a lot of products, honestly. Simple moisture and cleanliness is all my hair needs - but once again - the style in my siggy is how my hair is 70% of the time - the rest of the time, it's either loose, with product in it, or it's in fat two strand twists to 'stretch' it out before I put it BACK into that style.

Good luck, and congrats on the BC!!

I use Elucence MB as a leave in, coconut oil and Oyin's Whipped Pudding or Blended Beauty Happy Nappy Styles to style. I've tried other products and some are good but don't give me the results I get with the three above and some are just no good for my hair lol too greasy, too sticky, too hard, etc. I rinse my twists whenever I'm in the shower and I do cowashes (VO5) every now and then. When I do poo, I use Blended Beauty Soy Cream shampoo and do a prepoo with Amla oil.

My 4a/b hair looooves anything with coconut milk for softness and moistture. I've been using Curls milkshake as a leave in. I cowash with Herbal Essences hello hydration mixed with Suave tropical coconut and my hair is sooooo amazingly soft and moisturized. I also use Ors lock and twist gel for my twists.

As long as I no poo I am good. Vo5 works for me.

co-signing! i do conditioner washes all the time and my hair is in great shape. V05 is good and cheap so i can afford to go thru 2 bottles a week... LOL  also i love Trader Joe's Nourish shampoo and conditioner. the shampoo is SLS-free, i use it 2x a month. and the creamy conditioner is cone-free, great for conditioner washing and also makes a great deep conditioner.

Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose conditioner is still my all-time favorite... but it's way too pricey to use for conditioner washes. i just use it every now and then.

i've become a big fan of Garnier Fructis lately... LOVE LOVE LOVE their Length and Strength leave-in conditioner. going to try the Curl and Shine line one of these days...

I like using Humectress both as a regular conditioner and as a leave in. I also melt coconut oil and shea butter together and add olive and castor oil to it to use as a hot oil treatment. Soft!

I'm a big fan of Qhemet Biologics products, three products in particular - Amla & Olive Heavy Cream, Sidr Tree Butter Balm, and the Olive Cream leave-in. For Oyin, the only thing that works for me is the Whipped Pudding. I use Keracare products for washing and conditioning.

The best thing for my hair is keeping it clean and moisturized, so I cowash several times a week. I like to use lots of coconut oil just before washing. And when my hair is still wet, I often use a natural butter. My faves are avocado and hemp butters.

I shampoo maybe once a week or a little less. My favorite shampoo of all time is Aveda Sap Moss. I like AO conditioners, but I'll also use cheaper conditioners sometimes, too. Absolutely no cones.

I use henna once a month and I think this has done wonders for my hair. I LOVE henna.

Right now my staples are Envia shampoos and conditioners, castor oil, washing in 4 braids under a shower filter, microfiber hair towels, and bone combs. HTH Q

i also love castor oil!!!
i prepoo w/ a mix of conditioner and sweet almond oil, sometimes amla
diluted shampoo mixed w/lustrasilk shea butter cholesterol in braids
condition w/aubrey organics gpb or mix of coconut milk, oils, & lustrasilk shea

i moisturize ends daily w/ water, homemade leave-in & black castor oil
i baggy at night
in the summer i wash-n- go w/ kinky curly curling custard

Hi Jenteel,

How is this working for you? I'm debating buying a jar, but I usually keep my hair in two-strand twists b/c I still haven't found the right product to do a good wash-n-go.:ohwell:

i like wgo hair oil..i just started using it again..and shea butter is helpful. when i want moisture..i jus came out of having my whole head cornrowed with my hair..and now its bak out...im soo happy ive made it 9 months in counting..ill update with pics soon!!:-)

I like to use Aveda Sap Moss Shampoo. It is very moisturizing and detangles my hair really well. Organic Root Stimulator Creamy Aloe Shampoo is one of my favorite shampoos also; it has a creamy consistency and does not strip my hair, also has a fresh smell. Both shampoos make my hair pretty soft.

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner has been wonderful for my Conditioner Washes and I also like to use Porosity Control Conditioner because it really helps clear away product buildup and get rid of the tangles.

My favorite Leave-In Conditioner is Qhemet Biologics Olive Cream Detangler. It makes my hair Sooooo soft and has a nice light scent. Blended Beauty Styling Butter Cream also works well for me.

Products that I have tried and liked since being natural are:

Garnier Fructis curl and shine products (shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in creme)
Jojoba oil
Qhemet Biologics sidr tree butter balm
Dove sheer moisture mist
Dove intense therapy conditioner (dark blue bottle)

But honestly, if your shampoo and conditioner are working for you I wouldn't necessarily be in a rush to change them. When I went natural I wanted all new products too. I gave away most of my hair products and went on a search for ones especially for my natural hair. I had used porosity control for years while relaxed, and all through my transition, but abandoned it so after becoming natural. Now, after about 8 months of being natural I have decided to go back to using it. So my advice is: have fun experimenting, but don't forget what worked for your hair.

ETA: ORS olive oil shampoo does work nicely, especially if you have hard water.

I love Castor oil. I use it to oil my scalp and for shine. I also like Elucence clarifying Shampoo, Moisturing shampoo and Elasta Qp Mango Butter. Conditioner washes are great too for giving my hair moisture and softness.

Good thread~!

It's has been a true journey to find things that work well for me.

I pre poo by saturating my hair with coconut oil. That henna and coconut milk sounds wonderful.

I wash with Kenra moisturizing shampoo/Aubrey Organics Island Naturals shampoo/suave coconut conditioner/suave coconut co w/ baking soda (any one of those). I choose based on what I feel my hair needs. IMO shampoo choice is important because the wrong shampoo can singe your ends.

I use the the complimentary conditioners to the shampoos above. I just started using Ion reconstructor for protein (it's good so far).

I am trying to use things up, so I am using motions triple leave in (creamy) which is ...good. My recommendations are Elucence MB Conditioner or MOP leave in for leave in.

For moisture and sealing things in, I use shea butter and coconut oil whipped together. I put a few drops of rosemary in it. This is excellent, long lasting, and all I need.

Aloe vera gel or ORS lock and twist gel is good for hold.

I spritz with water then add the coco/shea if my hair feels dry during the week.

I say use what you got (poo/conditioner) before you go out and buy more. What you have might be what you need :)

Oh I love me some castor oil. Some people find this weird but i like the smoky smell. I'l ad this to my list  BTW Countrygal your hair is rockin!

Hi,

I swear by Aubrey Organics GBP, Island Natural and Honeysuckle Rose conditioners. I recently started using their shampoos (they were free with purchase of the conditioner) and I love them. They're very gentle and don't leave my hair feeling stripped. I henna my hair every 2-3 weeks for color, strength and shine.

Every night I spritz my hair with water and put in whichever leave-in I'm experimenting with (these days Surge Moisture Aide). Then I apply of my homemade concoction of black castor oil, emu oil, coconut oil, sulfur powder and rosemary eo to my scalp, rubbing a bit more in at my temples. Finally, I put my hair in a single long braid and put Elasta QP mango butter on the ends, tuck it under, put my scarf on and go to bed. In the mornings, I just put my hair in a ponytail and go.

BTW, I keep my hair in two strand twists and only take them out to wash my hair or for special occasions.
