I finally broke down and purchased one, and am I thinking about straightening my hair for the holidays (either Thanksgiving or Christmas) but I was wondering how you all are using it.

Here are my questions:
1. Do you all blow dry first or airdry (in large twist) and go at it that way?
2. What is a safe temperature to ensure hair will revert back upon washing
3. What do you put in your hair before/while straightening
4. How long does the it typically last?
5. Does all your hair revert back or do you get some straight pieces?
6. Is there another flat iron that your prefer better for your natural hair?
7. Anything else you'd like to share.

Sorry for all the questions, its just I had a bad experience w/ a "professional" pressing. The woman burned parts of my hair straight so I had to do a 2nd BC and start all over again after a 1 1/2 years of great growth  I am DEFINITELY not trying to go through that again :nono:) So I figured I would do it myself and do it right! :yep:

Thank you in advanced for your support!

*** Oh BTW, It's still in the box and I have the receipt so I can still exchange it if this is no longer the best flat iron for natural hair.

Here are my questions:
1. Do you all blow dry first or airdry (in large twist) and go at it that way? I blowdry my hair first it makes it easier to flatiron.
2. What is a good temperature to ensure hair will revert back upon washing 3. What do you put in your hair before/while straightening? I am 4b natural so the temp is usually set at 5-7. I use Got2b Crazy Sleek before blowdrying, it's a heat protectant and Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine anti frizz serum before flatironing.
4. How long does the it typically last? It usually lasts about 2 weeks with a bit of puffyness towards the end (and on my ends ) of the 2 weeks.
5. Does all your hair revert back or do you get some straight pieces? My hair always reverts back.
6. Is there another flat iron that your prefer better for your natural hair? I think that the Maxiglide is the best flatiron that I've used and that's because it does a great job at getting my ends straight.
7. Anything else you'd like to share. That is all .

My response is in blue.

Here are my questions:
1. Do you all blow dry first or airdry (in large twist) and go at it that way? I twist my hair into section and let it airdry for about about 2 hours--then I a run through it w/ a blow out comb on low
2. What is a safe temperature to ensure hair will revert back upon washing I use mine on 7-my hair reverts back easily upon washing
3. What do you put in your hair before/while straightening after washing I use vatika oil mixed w/ BB moisturizing growth lotion-when the hair is dry I use Chi Silk Infusion along with added Silk Amino Acids
4. How long does the it typically last? I wear if straight for 1 week-but could go longer
5. Does all your hair revert back or do you get some straight pieces? Last wash I did have a few straight pieces-but for some reason I think it's left over relaxer because this section is never as kinky as other parts of my hair-
6. Is there another flat iron that your prefer better for your natural hair? NO!
7. Anything else you'd like to share. At my job there are about 10 natural heads. The 1st time I used my MG they ALL chewed my head off because they thought I relaxed-my hair was that stright!

Thanks ladies who replied! You all helped alot and have made me feel comfortable and confident in my purchase.

Does anyone else have any maxiglide advice??? :bump:

1. Do you all blow dry first or airdry (in large twist) and go at it that way? blowdry for me=a puffy press.I rollerset and and dry.
2. What is a safe temperature to ensure hair will revert back upon washing 5
3. What do you put in your hair before/while straightening
I spray my hair with nexxus heat protexx(the best ever)and a good amount of lacio lacio and rollerset and then dry under a hooded dryer or air dry.
4. How long does the it typically last?
1 week-but it could be longer if I wanted
5. Does all your hair revert back or do you get some straight pieces?
My hair ALWAYS reverts back.lol
6. Is there another flat iron that your prefer better for your natural hair?
NOPE!
7. Anything else you'd like to share.
keracare pressing cream works wonders for me.Also, use the steam burst on your ends and make sure your hair is COMPLETLY dry before attempting to iron it.Take small pieces to get a silky smooth press.

1. Do you all blow dry first or airdry (in large twist) and go at it that way?
I blow dry mine on a low setting just to stretch it out slightly

2. What is a safe temperature to ensure hair will revert back upon washing
I usually use between 3-5

3. What do you put in your hair before/while straightening
Any type of heat protectant. For my recent straightening, I blow dried w/a lil Lacio and Avocado butter. Then I used Chi Silk Infusion before flat ironing

4. How long does the it typically last?
I guess 2 or more weeks, but I usually wash it out by 2 weeks...

5. Does all your hair revert back or do you get some straight pieces?
My hair seems to revert back

6. Is there another flat iron that your prefer better for your natural hair?
Umm, I haven't really used any other that I like besides the Chi. I like the Maxiglide because of the steam feature and the pins

Here are my questions:
1. Do you all blow dry first or airdry (in large twist) and go at it that way? I blow dry first on the lowest setting so that the hair is already somewhat straightened. It makes it much easier to straiten with the iron.
2. What is a safe temperature to ensure hair will revert back upon washing
I use it on 5. I'm scared to go any higher although I probably could. I got some barbed wires up there!
3. What do you put in your hair before/while straightening
I put Keracare Silken Seal before I blow dry then I put the Beyond Strait that comes with the iron. I use that right before I press.
4. How long does the it typically last?
About 1 week or so.
5. Does all your hair revert back or do you get some straight pieces?
My hair reverts back.
6. Is there another flat iron that your prefer better for your natural hair?
Nope. MG is good enough for me!
7. Anything else you'd like to share.
Dont turn the heat up too high. Take some shed hairs and do tests on them with various temps to see if your hair will revert back before doing your whole head.
My responses are in purple.

Thank you to all who replied. You all have provided me w/ great 411. I know feel very comfortable w/ my purchase and I will be very confident when I shoose to straighten (despite my tramatic experience).

Thanks again for coming though ladies. I appreciate you all!! :yep:

Hi!

1. Yep I blow dry my hair first
2. NOW, I only go up to temp 5. I tried 10 on some pieces in the front of my head, and the texture changed. It curls up differently then the rest of my hair :nono:
3. I use Redken Heat Protectant
4. It usually doesn't last too long without refreshing some pieces here or there.
5. I have just straightened my hair on the 5 setting last week. I haven't washed yet, but I will let you know how it goes when I do.
6. Chi, it gives the hair a wispy effect and its also a lot smaller and light weight, but it doesn't have temp control, so I will choose my maxi-glide over that anyday.
