I'm just curious.... I know there are a lot of naturals on this board, but are there any of you ladies who sport your natural hair dreaded. Is there a reason you don't or do?

I do not have locks. I am willing to get some eventually. I have never had natural hair, so I'd like to enjoy my loose hair for a while. I want to grow it out for a while. I may lock up in 5 years or so.

people always assume i am going to dred my hair because it is natural. I do think you can be creative with them by doing different styles and coloring them. But I wouldn't ever dread my hair I just don't think it's for me.

I don't cause I like the option of doing different things with my hair.

Same here. I may do it when I'm like in my late 40's or something. I like wearing individual braids so I'm sure I'll like locing. I like folks' who have their locs a different color at the tips. I like them crinkly and in an up-do with little hair accessories. I think I'll like that later in life. Right now, I'm just a few months natural and I would like to have the experience and flexibility of wearing it out and curly, shrunken and nappy, a bad @ss afro, twists, twist outs, braids, braid outs, or even straightened for a minute. I just love my natural hair.

Although I admire locs on others, at this time I have no plans to follow suit. I'm much too hair fickle and like the versatility of my natural hair as it is. But, I may reach a point in my hair "journey" where I decide to loc. If so, I'm sure I would definitely style them in myriad ways. I would also like them to be uniform in size and neat.

i can't see dredding my hair... i can hardly wear braids for longer than a couple of days so i can't imagine wearing something thats similar for a long time... i don't even know how long i'll stay natural... i'm a hair-whimmer if that makes any sense...

I had locs for over three years. I decided to take them out a year and a half ago. I just wanted a change. Also they were getting heavy along w/buildup (lint) and I was getting bored. But at least for me I know they were pretty carefree. Most of the time I just washed, oiled and went and they turned out really well. I think I will stick with my loose natural for quite a while though- i'm liking it ;)

I am the kind of person who really needs to scrub her scalp at shampoo/nopoo time, so I don't think locing would work for me.

I also love the versatility I have with my natural hair, even though these days I usually style my hair in 1 or 2 styles, due to lack of time. I love to wear my hair out once in a while.

It seems as if I wouldn't have as many options with dreads. I like my hair to be free, lol!

I would feel very limited with dreads, and what I am doing is more of a challenge with more rewards for me at this time in my life. I do not see me locing anytime in the foreseeable future. Bonjour
