How do you use it? I just bought it and I think I am going to love it based on the ingredients. Do you use it alone after shampoo-ing? Do you mix with some oils? Heat?

I read on previous threads that it contains protien, but the only one that I see is hydrolyzed soy protien toward the bottom of the ingredient list. Is this a problem? I was planning on using AO GPB every other week.

I use it to cowash or after the sas shampoo as a leave in. I really like how it makes my hair feel. I haven't had any issues with the protein and i do palmers coconut protein treatment 1-2xs per month.

I have used it alone, and mixed into DC concoctions. To me, it has enough oil in it to work on its own with or without heat. However you decide to use it, it works even better teamed with the SAS shampoo. :yep: Its very moisturizing, so I would consider it to be more of a moisturizing conditioner than a protein one. You will love it! It's one of my fave Giovanni products!!

It is vegetable protien which (and don't quote me on this because I am not an expert by any means) is a little different from hard core proteins that contain a lot of amino acids, keratin, eggs (animal protien), etc. I am protien sensitive and use it and have no issues with it. I use it after shampooing and mixed in with my DC. I like it overall.

SAS is one of my favorite conditioners. it works great *on my 4b hair* without heat on its own. it has great slip & conditions very well. i use it after shampooing either as a rinse out or as a DC with heat & sometimes i do mix it with other oils. i want to try SAS as a pre poo mixed with vatika oil.
:lick:

I used GSAS on my daughter natural 4c hair as a conditioner after shampoo. end result very soft moisturized hair. I use it as is.

It does not seem like I need to mix the SAS with any other oils/conditioners. However, I did see on a previous thread that some people mixed it with AO HSR. I might try that later. Thanks ladies. Any other suggestions are welcome....

Love it!
I'm usually very heavy handed with conditioners and I always feel I haven't covered every strand, but with this I feel you don't need to much.
I feel there's hardly any protein in there, mostly moisture.

It's too nice to just use for a cowash. :look:

I like to use this after a shampoo and before flat ironing, because it leaves my hair light, fluffy and silky.

I usually don't add things to my conditioners, and I use them as directed. So whatever the directions say, is what I do.

If a conditioner says to use after a shampoo of the same line and I don't have that particular shampoo, I use whatever shampoo I have then follow the directions on the conditioner. I always believe that whoever wrote the directions had a reason for doing that and that the formula in the conditioner has been tried and tested so that it was the best recipe they could come up with. So I try not to be creative but trust that for best results I must follow the directions of the maker.

I think "as directed" wins. I can't wait to use this tomorrow!!!!! Oh but does "as directed" include heat or no heat?

Directions don't mention heat so I don't use heat.

Now with Emergencée, the directions do say with or without heat, so I could use heat or not.

It's been ages since I've used heat when conditioning/DCing.

Last question (hopefully) - how long do you leave in conditioner?

It doesn't give you a time so I don't really time it. I usually apply it then wash my body before rinsing it off. Sometimes if I'm only just washing my hair, and especially if short of time, I will apply it, brush my teeth and rinse. Since they don't ask you to leave it on, my assumption is even just squeezing my braids to make it penetrate them and get to all strands is enough for the conditioner to work right away so that even rinsing immediately would still leave your hair coated with conditioning properties.

It's a great all-purpose conditioner. I just don't like using it for deep conditioning, but I've used it every way a conditioner can feasibly be used on the hair and it's fine. It also is a great lightweight leave-in. It smooths the hair out very nicely.

I use it with heat as a deep conditioner. It's a good conditioner.I like Nonie's logic. I've never tried to use it as directed. I'll try that next time.

Sorry to hijack, but those of you using it "as is" as a conditioner, does this mean you follow up with another conditioner to deep condition or is this your deep conditioner, just without heat?

Even though it says DEEPER MOISTURE on the bottle, I don't think of it as a DC. In my tiny li'l brain, I think of DCs as those products you leave on your hair for a while to allow them to penetrate your strands.

For example, AO GPB and AO HSR are regular conditioners, however if you want to use them as DCs, the advice is to apply them to dry hair and leave them on for 15 minutes, and then shampoo and condition as usual.

Since no such instructions are given on Giovanni SAS, I consider it a regular conditioner, not a DC.

Ok wait sooooooo SAS is not a DC?

Apply daily after Smooth As Silk Deep Moisture shampoo. Massage through to ends before rinsing thoroughly.

The description reminds me of what is said of Pantene shampoos and conditioners in their ads...how they repair hair the outside of the hair by coating it with some "technology" and not because they are DCs. Nothing on the product makes it sound like a DC to me; like it's supposed to penetrate the strands. I think the Deeper Moisture is just semantics or clever marketing. They probably could have said oodles of moisture and would've meant the same thing. If it were a DC, I doubt you would need to use it daily.

i use this as a cowash, or I mix it with a couple other dc's and coconut oil and leave it on all day. I love this stuff!

I used it today as a DC, thinking it was a DC, too. It worked just fine. I didn't use heat. Heck, I was so lazy today, I didn't even put a plastic cap on. My hair was sectioned in 4 & I just left it in for about 30 minutes & rinsed. My hair had nice slip & felt really moisturized.
