Buying Redken from Walmart...??

Yesterday I went into Ulta and had my mind all made up that I was going to buy myself the Redken All Soft line. Got there and they were all out of the shampoo and 1 other product from that line I wanted to try.

I noticed last nite as I was leaving Walmart that they had that same line for sale in the Walmart's "salon". The salon itself was closed/gated up though, because it was Sunday and today is Labor Day.

I swear that I remember reading something about how people should be careful about buying certain product lines from certain places cuz it might not be the "real product"?? Is it ok if I buy the Redken from Wally World??

I just seen somewhere possibly GMA that you shouldn't buy salon products from places other than salons.

I would purchase Redken from the salons at Wal-Mart, because they are salons. (To me, they are on the same page with SuperCuts and HeadStart. Now, if the salon products were on the aisles with Pantene, then I would not buy Redken, Joico, etc.

FYI: Did you know that Wal-mart stocked the liters of Redken Real Control before Ulta or Trade Secret in my area? In fact, Ulta still doesn't have Redken Real Control where I live.

The Walmart Smartstyle Salons are part of Regis Corp. I am sure the salon products sold there are legit.

Now, that's what I talking about in my previous post. I wouldn't buy that at
all. They may be real, but they might be old or diverted. Belk's salon has Bumble and Bumble. (If I remember correctly you are in the South. If you are still in GA, plenty of legitimate salons exist that carry everything from Phyto to Pookie's.

I have never had a problem with any products I have bought at WalMart, Target or my local major grocery store. I have watched them stock the shelves with the sealed Nexxus boxes. I actually am more likely to question the BSS and salons.

I actually saw RedKen products at a Mobil Gas station here in my town. I was tempted to buy some but had to thinking about it for a while. And I'm still thinking about it......LOL. The price is very tempted.

I could be wrong, but I have been lead to believe that its not an issue of how long it has been sitting on the shelf, but the quality. I read someplace that some of these manufacturers make products that are of a lower quality for the chains (like walmart/target) than the products they stock at the salons. I don't know if this is true or not, but I would tend to think that the products at walmart are sold more and must be restocked quicker than at a salon and are probably less prone to sitting for months on end.

i got my Redken Real Control Mask at the salon in Walmart, and yes, they did have that line in stock before Ulta and Trade Secret in my area. And it was about $5 cheaper too.

As a professional we are asked to report siting like this to the companys, it's
called diverting. Big salons buy up large supply of product the sell it to big box stores. the manufactures now code yhe bottles to tell where the product came from. It maybe the real thing or it may not...

Yea, I have heard the same thing. I don't buy "high-end" products at Wal-Mart, Target, CVS or any discount chain... Nexxus, Paul Mitchell, Redken, etc. are only supposed to be bought at Salons or ULTA, JCPenny Salon, etc. (and most ULTA's are salons' too) Those are the only places "authorized" to sell original product. Discount chains usually get the "high-end" product because they are "faulty" in some way AND they don't come through the "approved" supply chain from the manufacturer OR its authorized distributor.
