hi ladies... well the new year hasn't been too good to me as of yet. in a rare twist of fate the far side of my face was burnt by an apartment heating pipe, from my hairline(near my forehead)) to behind my ear. i have third degree burns that will take a year to heal.

my question is... because i cannot get the burn wet and it's by my hairline i haven't been able to wash my hair. does anyone know of any shampoo type product that can be used without water? any suggestions will be appreciated.

tia

OMG! I'm so sorry this happened to you! I've seen the product below at bss and drugstores, but I've never tried it. There's another one with a black woman on the label. I'm not sure if it's a different product or the same one in different packaging.

sg: thanx for the hookup... i'll go gt i tomorrow...

does anyone know if not using water for a long period of time will damage my hair; and does anyone have any leave in product suggestions i can use to prevent damage? tia

dr; the burn is too severe for regular otc treatments; the area is totally stripped of skin and nerve endings...

Sorry about your accident. I do not know how you wear your hair but you might glycerin mixed with distilled water. Alot of ladies use this to keep their hair moisturized, you just put it a mister and your good to go.

Sylviaetc., I'm sorry to read about the accident! It sounds painful! Ouch! Have you sought medical treatment? If not, I *urge* you to go! The physician should be able to provide you with the proper care for your burn. I don't want any of my LHCF sisters and brothers to have to suffer - especially if there may be an option for relief. I'm worried about you! Please go, chica.

Good Lord. I'm so sorry to hear this. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Re your hair, my advice would be to try a rinseless shampoo and make sure the keep the ends of your hair moisturized (the glycerin/water mist, activator product, or a leave in conditioner followed up by oil will all do). Since the ends of your hair are the parts the need the most moisture, just focus on cleaning your scalp and moisturizing the ends

I am praying that God heals you ASAP! I'm sure your doctor could recommend a waterless shampoo, you should ask him/her.

i'm so sorry to hear that. i don't know of any shampoo but i hope that everything will turn out right and that it will heal soon.

nay:)

I am sorry to hear about your accident. The no rinse shampoo recommendations you've gotten so far seem like they will work. You can mention them to your doctor and see if anything more can be recommended. :-)

sorry about your getting burned there is a latherless shampoo that organic root stimulator makes i used it while i was in the desert and it works pretty good

Oh my goodness!! I'm really sorry to hear about your accident!! That burn sounds really painful... I hope you heal up quickly

I know they also make dry shampoo, it's a powder (in case the doctor says you can't use any liquid). Here is a link I found: Psssst!! Spray Shampoo I wonder if they carry it in stores???

thanx girls for all of your support.... i have seen a doctor and a surgeon and the prognosis is good; although neither of them had the forsight to counsel me on how to go about cleaning around the burn. i'll be sure to bring it up at my next visit... i'm going to pick up the shampoo today, lol at least one good thing came out of this... i get to buy all new products without the pj guilt

Sorry, to hear that I hope you sue the apartment complex! Get well soon! I would get large cornrows that expose the scalp braids are a protective style and I would get some sea breeze on a soft cloth and rub your scalp with it, it will clean your scalp also periodically spritz with water I would avoid all braid sprays/oils etc. I would oil my scalp monthly with olive oil mix with tea tree oil which is an anti-fungal also seek the aid of a friend with your hair in cornrows you maybe able to lean back and do a brief rinse from time to time. don't worry you'll be fine!!! Take Care!

Phew! Nyambura exhaling a breath of relief. I'm glad you've done what you need to do to take care of yourself. Shop away, Sylvia! I don't think it counts as PJ-itis if these are necessary treatments for medical reasons...right?
