iight yall, i got my hair done yesterday. First off my appt was at 11 A.M. and when did i get started? close to 12. So thas ONE strike against the salon. Then i told her i had itched a whole lot the night before and to base me well, what did she do? made sure my freakin hairline was done properly and then did maybe one or 2 spots in the BACk of my head. SECOnd strike. Now we start relaxing after all of this madness, and my whole head has been applied to. Then this bytch starts burning right? and i tell her i'm burning. What does she proceed to do? relax some more. pours some oil like substance into my hair and asks if that feels any better..and im like NO. and we keep going like this for about FIVE more minutes., By this time my whole damn head feels like its up in flames. Finally im sent to the sink. We wash and whatever, neutralize and whatnot. Then i come to find out lata that this chicken has snuck a medium brown rinse and me "because my hair was dry". And that quote is bull s**t cuz i came in with fully moisturized hair S-curl and all. Now i no longer have my natural brown highlights (and im pissed). ok after the wash, im put under the dryer (and my hair is dryed) i proceed to have a blowout for about five minutes ("jus to make sure its straight"). My hair got FULLY flatironed twice and then i got curled. I complained to them about using so much heat and that my hair was breaking off (because i saw pieces of my hair all over), and this woman was like "your hair can't break from heat like this, it when you use it everyday" I was thinkin to myself, yea right...And she told me the broken pieces of hair were supposed to come off because i haven't gotten a perm in a long time.
NOW i say all that to say this, i got my hair done for New Years b/c im gonna see my baby and when i woke up this morning i have all of these damn burns on the right side of my head. WITH the hair stuck in it, no doubt. Do any of you guys no how to fix this? and get rid of the burns quickly? I kno this was a long post, but please hit me back.

Essential oil of Lavender is light and GOOD for burns. Vitamin E is not as light but great for burns....
Good luck! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nubian Rose I am so sorry to hear this. I would tell you that next time the hairdresser starts laying on all that heat to tell her to STOP, but I know this is easier said than done because I've suffered in silence before. Luckily my new stylist is really good about not using a lot of heat, even when I would get a blow-dry and curl she would pre dry me under a hooded dryer so I wouldn't get so much direct heat.I agree that Vit. E should help with the relaxer burns. I used to get them all the time from STOOOOPID hairdressers. I can;t believe she said that hose hairs were supposed to come out WTF!!!! I've been seriously thinking about cosmetology school and I really wonder what these schools are teaching people or if the hairdressers just ignore what they've been taught. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm sorry, but that woman should be sued. She had no business putting a brown rinse in your hair and it wasn't requested. Uh-uh. Nope! /images/graemlins/mad.gif

Firstly Nubianrose let me say that I'm so sorry for you having to have such a pathetic person spoil your hair and your night.

I went to Joseph's in November and ended up with 2 burnt scalp areas too. What I used which worked for me was using Isoplus Oil Sheen Spray. The one in the dark blue can. It says that it can be sprayed directly onto damaged scalp if necessary and I did this morning and night for say a week. After that the flaking lifted up and out of my hair.

I've used this spray before when years ago I let my step sister relax me at home and I had hair actually STUCK to my scalp! Again I used this spray on the scalp every day it worked wonders. Its my personal fave oil sheen spray anyway. I've never tried the vit E route but I"m sure that works too. For me, that spray saved me. Also, do your usual washes and deep conditioning which will help your hair anyway.

Let me know how it goes?

Sis I'm so sorry to hear about your hairdresser nightmare. I swear some of these people think they know everything. Why is it so hard to find a good hairdresser in a haystack of a whole buncha crappy ones????
Whatever you do don't try and comb it. You'll risk breaking your hair. Try to moisturize your scalp with a good leave in and oil mixture to soften the scabs. I hope this helps. Keep us posted ok? /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Ditto on the sympathy - I'm sorry someone played you like this. This si my biggest problem with relaxers - and until you find a good stylist it'll be hard to correct.

Oil will definitely soothe and help with the sticking - any oil save those that are stimulants like tea tree, cinnamon, rosemary etc.. DO NOT use these - they will burn. But jojoba, shea, or anything else should be fine.

Next time you wash also use a vinegar rinse 4 part water to 1 part vinegar - to help actually heal the skin in the area. Works like a charm. They do this in Dominican Salons often. It'll sting a little if the wounds are still open - but worth it - they'll be gone shortly thereafter.

Try not to manipulate the hair around the burns too much either. The hair can come out if it handled too much before the skin heals. TAKE MY WORD FOR IT! /images/graemlins/shocked.gif /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm sorry to hear about your disaster! (I am so paranoid of hair dressers!). I have natural highlights I love also. That would piss me off that someone would take it upon themselves and put a rinse in my hair. At least it was a rinse..which means it should eventually shampoo out. Now if she would of used a permanent hair color.... /images/graemlins/mad.gif
The laides here have some good advice for you about the burns. Take care of yourself and NEVER go back there.

So so sorry you had to endure this. All the others gave good advise. Your scalp will heal up in no time. Please don't let that lousy hairdresser ruin your New Year celebrations.

By the way, what salon is it and what is her name. By the time her name circulates around these boards a few times negatively she'll realize that we are empowered consumers!!!

i dont think i will be much of a help but my experience was my hair was burning with a relaxer as well and when my hair was done i had like two scalp burns.i put vaseline on it for a couple of days and on my wash day i used a neutralizing shampoo(it says it can be used weekly), cream of nature mixed with motions, and i did my moisturizing and deep conditioner and air dried. i dont know what worked or if it was really and truly a scalp burn but i know it was raised rough surface on my scalp that was a bit tender so i dont know. but when i was done and i comb my hair i felt for the spot and it was gone. i dont know if that helps but its something to look into. God bless you all.

NubianRose I'm sorry about your hair ordeal, but I do believe that some of this could have been prevented.

Why did you let the woman proceed to relax your hair when you were not happy with her basing of your hairline and a few spots in the back of your head.?? I'm sure you would have been more concious of having your scalp well based due to your itching the previous day.

At the end of the day it's your money and your hair that these people are taking and working on. Say something! stop letting people take the piss with you, when it comes to your hair I cannot bare to read more hair horror stories at the hands of these so-called professionals that continue to run havoc up in people's heads. And a lot of the time they do it because nothing has been said to them.

Nubianrose,

I agree with others that the Vitamin E oil really works wonders on edges but it is some what sticky so it only takes a small amount. I have also used it on the ends of my hair which seems to do a nice job protecting them.

Sorry to hear that. I know I've been intimidated by stylists when I was younger. You have to be tough with them sometimes. It's your hair. And you are the one that has to suffer if they mess up. Did you tell her you had already attempted to relax your hair a few weeks earlier?

Happy New YEAR yall, thanks for all the love too. I still got the burns on my scalp, i've been applying olive oil to them tho. It should help somewhat. My hair wasn't messed up too badly either cuz i did recieve a few compliments on it so no worries. Im gonna do the vinegar rinse thing once i wash this weekend...and im NEVER GOING back to that hairdresser again.
g'night,
Nubianrose
