Build up on the hair/scalp?

I read a few posts about clarifying and I was wondering for those who wash their hair 2x or more a week is this mainly due to keep the hair/scalp free of buildup or what? I have to say back in the day, I only washed my hair 1x a week but I didn't put much in my hair neither, except some moisturizer or lottabody and rollerset it. So if the few washes a week is due to stop buildup, then what's the purpose of clarifying? And do all hair types/textures need to do this clarifying step? Since my BC, I pretty much wash and go at least 3-4 times a week. TIA

I wash and deep condition 2 x each week and no, I usually don't have build-up of anything in my hair. I started out my journey doing the Cathy Howse method of washing every 3 days. The reason is to keep my hair moisturized. :)

Every once in a while I willI clarify, usually with a little baking soda dissolved in my diluted shampoo. Ladies who clarify often many times are using products with silicones, which does build up.

Oohhhh it's the cones?!?! Well that sounds reasonable for the clarifying then. I did read that products which contained "cones" were bad for the hair and normally not your "friend" per se. But some people's hair can work with it and not suffer from it. So I totally understand the clarifying issue now. Thanks a bunch! :)
