I can't seem to find a thread that would let me know if i should brush or not brush my hair (wet or dry) and why or why not.
Thanks Lorraine

Don't brush it at all.

If you are going to brush I would stick with only brushing while it was dry and get a quality brush.

Since I stopped brushing my hair it has thickened up tremendously. I haven't brushed in over a year:)

SO how do i getmy hair in a ponytail after i wash it, which i do daily after the gym.

In the 16 months I have never needed anything else to style my hair. I tie it down at night with a satin scarf and I am good to go. You can look in my album to see that I can do just about any style that I want just using a comb. I also stretch my relaxers and texlax so I am never dealing with bone straight hair.

Definitely don't brush your hair while wet..I only brush my edges..NEVER EVER the length of my hair

I rarely brush my hair, but last night i brushed my scalp and it felt so good, it gave me the chills, it felt so good :) I think brushing is probably bad for the hair, but it is so good for the scalp.

So ladies how do I smooth it out after I have washed it, when i am leaving the gym?

I use a leave in and smooth it back into a ponytail and then wrap my scarf around it for awhile.

Do you just use your hands to smooth it back?...if so does it not tangle underneath

No brush! Try and put in a ponytail in the shower using a wide tooth comb and put a scarf/ headband on.

I really don't sweat that much when I work out so my hair is not really wet like I know some women's hair can get. I just put the cream in and then smooth it all back with my hands into a pony tail. I just use my fingers as a comb if I need to. I have thin hair so if you have thick hair that might not be enough. Some of my friends have very thick hair and they sweat a lot during a workout. But they don't ever try to wear straight styles. One of my friends sweats like a stuck pig  after we workout but she wears her hair curly during the week. sometimes, before she works out, she will pull her hair back and tie it down with a scarf and then afterwards she will use some of that hair powder (I think it's Bumble and Bumble), shake it through her hair, pull her hair back into a bun and wear a new dry scarf for a while until it dries. That seems like a lot of work to me, but you gotta do what 'cha gotta do.

You should see my blog...
I haven't used a brush in 3 months
and I wear my hair in a ponytail/bun thing everyday.
After I bought my Jilbere Shower comb...
I threw everything else away... literally.
I learned how to detangle in the shower
I really believe there's no need to
comb/brush if you detangle properly
when you're washing and making sure to
use a scarf at night.

I am slowly trying to get rid of the brush, but I have the same issues of how do I smooth my hair into a ponytail. I now use a baby brush.

Now do you use the baby brush b/c the bristles are soft and there is less pulling...possibly

yup, I heard I believe PatTod mention it in another thread, so I found my son's brush when he was a baby, and I've been using that for about a week.

I feel like I am the queen of not brushing ;) !

Detangle your hair with wide tooth comb and conditioner in shower. Smooth back into bun with hands. Using the side of a medium fine tooth comb, gently RAKE (don't comb!) out any lumps and bumps. Don't worry about whether it is ultra smooth underneath, just worry about how the top looks (You will get used to it!). If desired, rake with a regular fine tooth comb to finish, then smooth the edges with the baby brush. Then I usually tie on a silk scarf for a half hour or thereabouts so my edges dry smooth.

I think Sylver2 and Mahalialee have threads or fotki entries on this.

I only brush the outside of my hair. I'm still trying to find a way to eliminate the brush but I dont comb either except for wash day.
