Do you mind telling us what your regimen is? What do you use to wash, condition with? Do you sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase or use a scarf? Is your hair in braids at the moment? Are you relaxed or natural?

Right now I am using suave clarifying shampoo.. I try to wash my hair once a week... I have just switched back to Queen Helene cholesterol conditioner... I sleep on a silk pillowcase and I wrap my hair sometimes ... Right now I have braids but that just so i won't get a perm for atleast 2 more weeks... I just need to know what is something I could use for breakage... I think i flat iron my hair once a week if that helps.. lol

I'm not a veteran at hair care but I'm wondering if perhaps your using a clarifying shampoo every week isn't too stripping for your hair.

I know it's OK to use it every six weeks to remove build-up but I don't know about weekly uses.

I am also wondering if you perhaps don't need to reduce your protein treatment with cholesterol and find a moisturizing conditioner to use after the protein treatment and on days you don't deep condition with cholesterol. What leave-in do you use? Protein, although strengthening, does make our hair hard and hence brittle. So you need to use a moisturizing conditioner afterwards or to use a very good moisturizing leave-in. You could kill two birds with one stone by getting GBP which is both a protein and moisturizng conditioner. It may help to space out your cholesterol treatments ie do them less often.

I also think the direct heat weekly may be a culprit.

Hopefully someone that knows more than I do will correct me or shed more light.

It depends on what is causing the breakage. I've never used Nexxus Emergencee, but based on my product knowledge--it is a heavy duty reconstructor that will re-build all 3 layers of the hair and will surround the hair with a fiber to keep it protected. It MUST be followed with a moisturizing conditioner.

Can anyone help with hairline breakge? My daughter has a bit of that, and I'm not sure how to deal with it, xcept, trying to make her braids a little larger, looser and moisturizing more. Grateful for advice anyone can offer?!Thanks!

If you'll not have her hair pulled back or braided too tightly, then the breakage should taper off

I agree with Nonie: you're clarifying too often. Clarifying shampoos are only meant to be used every once in a while to remove the build-up of hair products in your hair. My advice to you is to switch to a shampoo specially formulated for dry/damaged hair (this type of shampoo will have an acidic pH that matches the pH of your hair). Also your hair needs a protein treatment. Aphogee treatment works very well. It costs $6 at Sally's. After shampooing, apply the treatment to your hair and sit under a hair dryer until the product is dried into your hair. Your hair will be very HARD so be careful with it while rinsing out the product. After rinsing, apply a moisturizing conditoner to your hair (I recommend Design Essentials Super Moisturizing Conditioner). Cover with a plastic cap and leave it on for 10-15 minutes and rinse. Unless your hair is damaged beyond belief (if this is the case, then cut off the damaged parts and start over again), your hair will be restored to beautiful condition. I also recommend that you don't wear braids in your hair. When done and/or maintained incorrectly, they cause too many hair problems. I've worn hair extensions for several years, but I no longer wear them because of the problems they cause. Good luck!

Ok, maybe the shampoo is a problem... But I thought it would be ok since it said daily clarifying... I thought that once a week would not hurt... How often do you do a protein treatment... What are some other good moisturizing conditioners... Thanks

I think Sebastian Penetraitt is one of the best protien conditioners out there. Its great for stopping breakage, I have been using it for a little over a year now. It is a good heavy duty protein conditioner.

Thanks GiGi. Her hairlines aren't gone, just thinning and frizzing. I think I'll try the castor oil.
