BREAKAGE - Is this Normal?!?!

I have had SO much breakage lately. I decided to give me hair a break and for the entire month of November, I would wash and pull back into a bun..primarly I would just let it air dry. Now I am texlaxed(about 60%), with maybe 2in or so or bone straight ends.

Towards the end of the month, I seemed to have ALOT of breakage. Like evertime I'd touch a few ends would break off. So I figured that maybe my hair couldn't really handle the airdrying and it was becoming too dry..even though I moisturize and seal and even co-wash from time to time. So I straightened..it's been like 2 1/2 weeks since. I've done moisture treatments...protein..even used tips from the Breakage thread and bought the Mizani Rose. I still have breakage...it's not as massive as when I was airdrying, but still WAY more than I feel I'm used to on a normal. Maybe 15 - 20 broken hairs when I'm fingercombing or pulling up into a bun.

Is this just normal winter breakage, or do I have a problem here?? Outside of my attempt to not use heat and bun for that month I haven't really altered my routine to much. I'm also like 10 weeks in on my texlax and I do it every 16 weeks. I was wondering if it had anything to do with that but I've been texlaxed for a year and went with no relaxer for a whole year before that and this never happened.

I'm lost and in DIRE need of help/explanation! Sorry so long but just wanted to include as many details as I could.

Thanks guys!!!!!

Hum You know alot of people have breakage this time of year. I had experienced breakage the end of this summer. I think my breakage was due to detangling. My shed hair would break off my hair when I detangled. For me I started doing the following once a week and now I hardly have any breakage..it has been working really well:

I would detangle my hair with my fingers frist.
Then I pre pooed with Olive oil and put a bag over my head for approx 20 min
I would wash hair with either Ion COlor Defense or Nexxus therapee
I would condition with Neutrogena conditioner
When I rinse out the conditioner...is when I detangle
I then rub Herbal Essence Long Hair Relationship from root to tip and let air dry.

I wouldn't comb my hair when it was wet=breakage. I use my fingers to clear through my tangles when dry. Otherwise I was blowdrying like you which seemed to only fry my ends I had to do a trim. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks Bermuda! Maybe it has something to do with the time of year, I'll try these and hopefully go into a sew-in in the next few weeks. Now that I think of it, I've worn a sew-in during this time of year for the past 2 years so maybe I haven't had to see it. I don't know, I'm so confused...

That is what I normally did too. This time of year I would either rock a weave or wack my hair off. But I have now found a regimine that works for me. Oil rinses are also good too. My hair is very moisturized. (Except the last few days. Ive been sick and not giving a dang about my hair. My hair is so dry you could start a fire by rubbing the strands together. LOL)

Breakage is never normal :nono:
What is your regimen? You said you've tried protein and moisture, but how did you try it? More details would help determine what type of breakage you are having. Are the breakage hairs long or short? I find that shorter hair breakage usually dictates the desperate need for a trim, but not always. Also, using ceramides are helpful but they do not resolve the source of the breakage, they only mask it, like putting a band-aid on a broken bone. Breakage should be treated first, and then ceramides can help support and supplement a working regimen to prevent breakage from recurring.
