I got an unpleasant present when I washed this weekend. For the first time since I started to transition I got breakage. Little hairs were coming out when I ran my fingers through my hair.:( I did a mild protein treatment. Any thing else I can do? I hope this was a weird event and won't be a weekly struggle.

Hi!

I had the same problem not long ago. WHat made it stopped was when i used the Sunsilk Black shine and the Cream Silk black shine with henna extract. That made my tangles go away and it stopped my breakage immidiately.

Here is the thing, it's for people who have a black hair color. So if you hair is brown or you colored it something else that might not be a good option.

If you hair is black you can order the sunsilk black shine at:

Or

Try this one:

I hope this helps. Again the sunsilk is what i used and it stopped my tangles and breakage immediately. So that is why i recommend conditioners and shampoos with henna extract.

You can try topical treatments to help but I think experiencing breakage while transitioning is just a fact of life. I don't know from personal experience but it seems to me that when you have two textures on your head like that, breakage at or near the line of demarcation is bound to happen.

could be winter dryness kicking in. all that chilly air and warm heaters at home, work, in your car.......

after washing and conditioning, i spray with elasta H2 then with hair still soaking wet, grab a fingerful of 100% shea butter, rub my hands really good so it melts and apply it to hair sections then carefully brush it through. i especially get anything at or near the line of demarcation and the ends really well.

i had to find a winter routine also. the shea butter may be too heavy for warmer weather but it darn sure isn't too heavy for wintertime.

btw, my usual style is a braid out, i'm not sure what your typical transitioning style is. i detangle once a week (during wash day) only. my hair stays very soft and moist feeling for days. i'll use a bit of the H2 (you could probably use any watery leave in) for extra moisture if retwisting/braiding for the night - probably around the 4th day. but you won't have to use anymore shea at all.

so far any breakage has been extremely minimal or non existent.

try the shea girl - make sure it the real deal and not just a mixture with shea in it. see if it helps.

I agreee with Keluric. Also try to wash your hair in sections :yep:

I agree with anky and Keluric. You should expect some breakage at the DL. Be very gently with handling that area.

Thanks for all the suggestions! The breakage on Saturday seem to have been a fluke. I CW yesterday evening and got no breakage and very little shedding. Maybe I just needed a protein boost since I CW 4-5 times a week.
