My suggestion would be try Sulfer 8 Medicated Braid Spray. It works well. I also do a ACV rinse on the hair I use for braiding the night before I braid. No itchies for me! HTH
yeah i had cornrows in for 4 weeks recently and i oiled my scalped with a combo of jojoba oil, shea butter oil, aloe vera, doo gro oil, kemi oil and a little evoo i mainly keep my scarf on all tha time. so tha braids dont get fuzzy which also helps me keep hands out and no itchin.
Thanks ya'll, I think the medicated spray is a great idea. I was thinking of using sulfur 8 but I didn't want to mess the braids up so a spray would be purr-fecto!
CP, it's been a week. I didn't even know you could wash cornrows? My cornrows go up into a bun. Won't washing make it frizzy? Not that I'd prefer dirty hair over frizzy hair. So how do you wash hair in cornrows?
CP took the words right out of my mouth. Robin, the "hair lady" at www.growafrohairlong.com has an excellent routine for washing and caring for braids. When I'm in braids, I NEVER use sprays or grease on my scalp or hair (makes my scalp feel dirty and hair smell yucky!) I wash once a week with a moisturizing 'poo (CON or therappe) followed by a leave in (headdress or giovanni) and that's it.
Fuzzies can be minimized by washing carefully and focusing the 'poo and your massage to the scalp only and let the water run down the braids, squeezing water & suds DOWN the braids in one direction only (not up and down) so the there is minimum disturbance of the braids. Towel dry same way, DOWN the braids in one direction. Then apply whatever oils or leave-in (you got it, smooth DOWN in one direction) and then tie up. I can wear braids (individuals or cornrows) for 6 weeks and wash each week before they need to be redone -- but I'm very very careful in the washing and do a lot of smoothing DOWN once my scalp is clean. Check out the website and good luck.

Hey bestestfriendinthewholewideworld
Put a stocking cap over ur braids...then wash. Works like a charm... no frizzies either
i didnt wash my hair at all while i was in cornrows it wasnt that dirty and it grew like wild fire in braids so im in them for tha next month tha stockin cap is good too.
I use the stocking cap when washing to and I wash twice a week. (I love the feel of water on my scalp.) I don't use oil on my scalp when in braids I just increase the amount of flax seed oil I take. That helps keep the flakes and dryness away. I do use a combo of evoo and Worlds of Curl activator on the legnth of my braids to keep my hair moisturized. Works like a charm.
