i was thinking about ordering one of breslin's dvd just to learn one technique at a time..i am especially interested in the cornrows, kinky twist and micros dvds...im really a beginner...for those who have purchased these dvds would you say it would be good for a beginner? i plan on buying a manequin to do more practice on..

It has helped me do my cornrows a bit tighter... I'm still working on perfecting my look....
I'm relaxing my hair this week so I'll see how it works out compared to on my NG.
She's very clear in showing you how the style goes. I personally like the camera shots & the amount of lighting that she has in order for the viewer to see what she's doing.... I haven't done the cornrows or kinky twists with extentions but I look forward to working on those as well....

I hope you like it! Others have also posted that they were buying a tape or two or were waiting for theirs to arrive.

*I still haven't bought a manequin....:look:*

Ashee they have manequins at hisandher.com for 29.99 a sright haired on and a kinky haired one.

bluediamond0829 I think that it is easy for a beginner Marquetta gose step by step, every thing is loud and clear. The finger positioning is excellent. THe best thing to do is pratice when you get the DVD's.

thanks for the responses...i went on and ordered the 4 and 1 dvd for 49.99...so the next step is getting the manequin so that i can practice once i receive the dvds...thanks....

Get what at Sally's the tapes or the mannequin?? I'm also thinking about getting these so that I can do cornrows on my daughters hair.

Thank you so much for posting this info. I have been thinking to myself how I needed to learn some new braid techniques. I do weaves and box braids well. But I wanted to perfect my no-knot cornrow extension technique because I have several requests for these (Braiding & weaving has become my side gig  ). Thank you for the perfect timing!

Miz Complexity I couldn't find them on the site, when I did a search they ranged in price from 49-69, I guess I missed the sale :ohwell:

it is still 29.99 for the weaving manequin heads in kinky hair or straight...what you have to do is when you go onto hisandher.com...is click on accessories...and then after that go to weaving accessories...after that then go to Gloria Head..and they have two different ones..each one for 29.99

I purchased my mannequin from Sally's for I think $49.99. Consider purchasing a stand for the mannequin. I don't know if Sally carries this item.

I have done some practicing with my mannequin, but realize I need the stand for the head. It's hard to braid and hold the head between your knees and the head does not stand on a table on its own while you braid. The pressure of your hands causes the head to fall to the side. I don't know the cost of the stand. I have not researched it. If someone has an inventive way of keeping the mannequin stable without the stand, please let me know.

Oh, Okay.

I ordered the kinky twist DVD. I thought that was the easiest braid that I could learn how to do on myself. . .we'll see! I've been practicing with kinky hair as well as practicing my micros with human hair. But I'm having trouble doing the back. :(

I've been patiently waiting, and waiting and still waiting. I ordered the bundle last month on July 1st and I called, they were cool. Well, last week, on Wednesday I spoke with Marquetta (she was nice) and she said she was re-sending me out my set with no problem, again. I asked her if customers had any problems with the mailings to California and she said no. I'm still waiting, and I too was already charged from my card for it too, I want my DVD's. Well, I did move put in a change of address, wondering if the postman screwed it up, but I got all the rest of my mail forwarded alright except for my bundle of DVD's, dunno what's going on. I'm looking everyday since last month.

speaking of it...i got mine today..it looks not too hard and she does take her time to explain how to do it...so far so good...now i need to get a manequin so i can practice because i dont know if i will be able to do it on my own hair just yet....:)...

California im sorry to hear that you havent recd your DVD's yet....

:) Oh thats cool girl! How do you like it? I know you are excited about getting started. You must don't have kids? All of my practice will go on my daughter (I hope she can hang with her crazy momma trying every style on the video's  ) Tell me how it goes with the mannequin head and how it goes in general, because it sounds like a well worth it investment.

Marquetta is cool, she told me today if I didn't have them by Friday she would personally send them UPS and give me the tracking # and she gave me her personal line too to call her if they don't get here on that day. I think she has excellent Customer Service going on. Some people wouldn't care if you got it or not, they'd be like oh well your lost, but not Marquetta. I sure appreciate her being so professional, I'm glad I bought the DVD's even if there was a shipping problem, because I heard its quality, I can't wait.

I haven't gotten mine either, but I just ordered them last Friday.

California I'm going to try and practice on my daughter too, the last time though that was a disaster so we'll see. I hope I can catch on this time, it sure would help me out a lot.

Yeah she seems like she is really cool to take the time and show her work on video...some hairstylist wldnt want you to learn....and for her to replace your dvds and try to track them down for you...no i dont have any kids to practice on and my sister is like 4 to 5 hours away from me ...lol...i think its going to be a good investment and maybe once i get the technique down then i can start doing my sisters hair...thats going to be the real test bcuz she has thick and past the shoulders hair..kind of reminds you of JenniferMD hair...or one of the long hair sisters on the board...

okay i just received my dvds for hair braiding by Breslin in the mail yesterday..i dont have anyone available that i can practice on...so im thinking about getting a hair mannequin head...but i need some advice about what is the best:

1. is it best for me to purchase one with kinky hair or with just straight hair?
2. I notice that there are some on ebay that are sold without a holder i guess these are older ones...would it be safe to order it off ebay since is reasonably cheaper?
3. Is there BSS places that i could go to locally without having to order online and wait for it to come and just get it from the store?

I got the "Weave" DVD last Wednesday, and placed my order the following Friday. That was fast. :woot:

Anyways, the dvd is very detailed. She goes step by step. She does the cornrows from left to right and leaves hair in between each track. I've never had this done to my hair.:ohwell: However, I would want to weave the entire head. I can now say that I know how to do weaves. :) I can't wait to try this on my sis.
