Braiding the base of twists?

I’ve read different natural heads doing this. They braid the base of their hair then twist the rest . . . Can someone tell me why? What’s the benefit?

What percentage of the hair would you say is braided verses twist?

Can you still get a decent twist out with this method?

Thanks.

I know of people that did this when adding extension hair in order to ensure a better hold of the extension hair.

The only reason I'd see someone doing that to twists w/o extensions is because the person isn't able to make the twist firm at that base/start so they braid just enough to get a firm start and then twist the rest. Or, they might do it if twisting from the base seems to require them to pull very hard (as one who is new to twisting might).

I don't know about the twist-out for sure but I'd suspect the twist-out wouldn't be uniform as you'd have a braid-out pattern then a twist-out pattern - although the difference may not be so obvious.

I use to do this. It made the base tighter so midweek if I was still wearing twists, they would not look puffy. I also did this becaus eit gave me a little more length to play with.

I did that, because the twists would last longer, And I didn't do it for long, it was just to start of the twist.

I haven't done twists in ages though.

From the various tutorials I've read this is exactly why you braid 1st..If you read LondonDiva's tutorial she explains how long you should braid down..I beleive she recommends a little more than the Breslin video
