I am in braids and will be for awhile. I want to know the following:

How do you care for your braids daily?

What are your products?

Do you wash your braids and if so how?

Do you oil and how often?

How long do you keep them in?

What has been your benefit? What was growth like?

Setbacks?

I have a friends who keeps them in 4 months at atime and just gets them redone as they grow. She does not wash them either!!!!!! She says after about 4 months she just takes them down and wash her hair keeps them out for about 2 months and goes right back. Odd thing her hair is only NL!

^^Thank you.

I wish every new-to-braids person would start off with that website. There are so many things that could go wrong following what different people do (Like me who never moisturizes), but I don't know anyone who has not had a good experience with braids following the advice on that site.

OP just be sure to redo the braids that get loose, especially along the hairline or your hair will break. And do not pull them back tightly to style.

When I first started self-braiding I used the crown and glory method I've kinda strayed since then

How do you care for your braids daily? I juice them everyday in the morning when I'm getting ready and in the evening before bed

What are your products? I use HS 14n1, SCurl, and Bee Mine Growth Serum

Do you wash your braids and if so how? I wash every 2 weeks. I braid the braids into big braids, put them in ponytails and wash my scalp

Do you oil and how often? I use the bee mine serum every other day

How long do you keep them in? If I braid my hair myself I leave them in for a little over a month. If I get them done professionally I leave the in for like 3-4 months.

What has been your benefit? What was growth like? Braids help me with growth because I have serious hand in hair disease. Whenever my hair is out I always have to try new styles. I've had great growth. When I first went natural I went from about an inch of hair to shoulder length when pressed in a little under a year.

Setbacks? I havent really had any setbacks. The only "setback" I can say I've had was last week I was frustrated with taking them down and I ended up cuttin one of the braids out because my hair got tangled.

I have looked at her method. The problem comes in when she says to wash your hair. Everytime I have tried the braids come out. I used a stocking cap but still they come out. I was trying to see other methods like (gulp) not washing while in braids.

When I had micros I made sure not to get them too tight or on the edges. Also, to prevent them from coming out when I washed them, I braided my hair into 8 big braids. I washed my scalp and let it rinse through my braids, and I used watered down conditioner to condition it without buildup. I would not take out my braids until my hair was mostly dry. This way the braids stayed looking fresh. People even kept asking me if I got my hair redone when I never did. (I only kept braids in 6-8 weeks at a time). And my braids never got frizzy even though I was natural when I got them in the last two times.

Sorry, it's ages since I read her method so forgive me for not following. So you're saying that when you put your braids into bigger plaits the bigger plaits come out?
