i am stretching my relaxer but the new growth look horrible i just did a wash and set and it is puffy with all this new growth. My boyfriend said he is going to take me to a nursing home if he sees me with a bun again. so i want to do a braid out on dry hair.

any one ever tried this? were the results good? if so how did you do it?

I always do my braid or twist outs on dry hair. Here's what I do:

1. Moisturize hair and seal with coconut oil
2. Brush lightly
3. Twist or braid in 5 corn-rows going straight back ( I mist each section with water/cond. before braiding)
4. Put a roller on the end
5. Take braids down the following morning

I rocking a twist-out today as a matter of fact.

Ha! My husband also believes buns belong in nursing homes & libraries!:drunk:

My sister-in law cornrows her hair when it is dry. Then she skeets a whole bunch of diluted lottabody setting lotion all over her head all the way down to the ends. She does not un-braid until everything is 100% dry. sometimes she wears the cornrows for a whole day or 2 before un-braiding. If she is in a rush, she will dry it with a blow dryer but she doesn't do that too much.

I also cornrow my hair completely dry. Doing it damp is too much hassle.
But as I am braiding, I use /Motions wrap foam as I proceed down each row.

Then at the end, I skeet some diluted infusium & oil on my whole head.

I also normally wear the braids for a few days because I adore cornrows.

If you un-braid it while it is still damp...you've waisted your time & effort.
It needs to be 100% dry before you unravel it.

I'm sorry Mook, but everytime I read your posts saying you 'skeet' something in your hair, I always hear the Ying Yang twins standing behind you, yellin, 'Awwww skeet skeet skeet skeet skeet skeet, Awwww skeet skeet skeet skeet!!'

:lachen:

Okay, carry on....

I've been using Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In and braiding or twisting my hair overnight...best braidouts I've had so far. S-curl works well too. The last time I used it, I only braided my hair up while I did something else, and about 2 hours later, I took the braids out and had waves.

I routinely do my braidouts on dry hair. I moisturize with Organix conditioner and seal with oil. I create 4 braids and set the ends on small self holding rollers and remove them after awhile. Sometimes I leave the braids in overnight (w/o the rollers.) This method always gives me defined frizz free curls/waves.

I always do braidouts on dry hair. I like the results better. Everytime Ive attempted them on wet hair, they come out a dry, frizzy mess.:nono:

Me too! But they come out best on airdried hair for me.

I haven't done one yet, but I plan to when my new growth gets thick.

When I do, I'm gonna add moisture, then spray with Jane Carter's Holding Spray Gel to get the shine and hold.

I wonder if the dry braid outs last all day?
