and I got the Motions Oil Moisturizer perm in Regular. But I turned on the back and it said if you have permanent color in your hair, then use the mild! /images/graemlins/frown.gif I do not want to use a mild perm in my hair, because I have course hair, and then, most of my new growth has permanent color on it, and even if I wait a while, I will still have colored new growth. What do you think? I really want to use the regular though. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Also, I got the protein conditioner, the regular conditioner, and the neutralizer. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

IMO I would stick with the mild. I had streaks in my hair a few years ago. I self-relaxed and the entire patch of blond streaks came out of my hair. My uncolored hair was left unharmed. Of course, I didn't know then what I know now. If you stick with the regular, you should go to a real professional and keep strict time boundaries. Sorry to use such a harsh example but that's the only way I could drive my point home. It takes to long to grow hair. Remember our motto... BETTER UNDER-PROCESSED THAN OVER-PROCESSED. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ditto. I just read in a black hair care magazine that if you have color added to your hair you should use a milder relaxer.

"Remember: The more extreme the color, the milder the relaxer must be. To make the color last, condition your hair with color-treated shampoos and conditioners."

I agree with what was posted but if you were hell bent (and in light of the recent problems the ladies here have had with underprocessed hair causing so many problems for them) on using the regular you COULD MAYBE get away with it if you coated the colored hair with a heavy pretreatment (vaseline would do) before getting your perm. If you did this with the colored hair primarily it would slow the realxer process some and help to maybe avoid overprocessing.

Again - I personally would use the mild regardless - but if you wanted to you could use this trick to avoid overprocessing. It's been done (by me of course) with minimal adverse effect. By minimal I mean that no more damage occurred than would have ordinarily given that I had a double process (color and realxer).

Hi Karonica,

Definately go with the mild relaxer. Better safe than sorry. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
