Bouffant Rollers, Old School

People are all over the net saying these are impossible to get etc. They are importing them from France. I used to see these things in the Caribbean as well as here in my mother's stash she started decades ago. What's the deal? They are so old school. When the smooth plastic ones became more popular for outside salon use, I guess they took over. I wish I had saved EVERYTHING my mom had. And why are there umpteen tutorials on rollersetting. Is it that difficult? I thought this was old fashioned knowledge everybody knew.

you know they stopped getting roller sets in the salon years ago. the styles didn't require them in the past 20 years, but since the Egyptians and Dominicans began using them (the roller wrap) they became popular again. i remember when i started getting roller sets several years ago, a lot of stylists weren't doing them, so i had to leave a few. that was a thing for old ladies.

Well, maybe I'm old lolol...but everybody used to get the rollersets in the Midwest. They'd just iron them out to get rid of that bouffan-ness they leave near the crown. Older stylists just dried the hair this way. Well, I'd say that half the people getting relaxers got a set that was ironed out and the other half, blow-dry. Dunno, it just seems second nature to do a rolleset...a pain in the arms, tho!!! But these rollers are nothing special. 30 bucks? Worth 50 cents a bag and they want 30.00??? Don't you know I wish I had saved all those old rollers? Shooooot.

It's not second nature for this generation! Well not where I am at least. My mom can do a rollerset in a few minutes flat along with my MIL and sister, but I suck. Well I have thick, long hair that's hard to keep in place properly.

and those bouffant rollers from France are the ish, I have never seen rollers so large or sturdy before.

I don't quite get the hype of these rollers. I know FOR SURE I won't be paying $30 for a pack of rollers. I have a huge collection of rollers that I've been building since I was a teen. Rollersets/wraps are and have been the norm around here (south). I've been rollersetting on and off since the 90's.

Maybe it's regional. No one my age got rollersets whenever I was in the salon when I was growing up. Everyone was getting blowdried and flat ironed. And the only people my age that I know who get them now are getting DBOs.
In any case, I can't imagine spending $30 on a pack of rollers, but maybe that's because I am the WORST at rollersetting. But I have heard that people who rollerset often really liked when they switched to those French rollers.

Yeah I think those bouffant ones are like 2.99 down here; and I thought that was alot for them Maybe I'll get some to have around when my hair gets longer.
